Game shows that ended too soon

Post by Philip A »

These short-lived game shows, in my opinion, could have had a much longer run had they not been cancelled so soon for various reasons:

Interceptor (1 series)
The Syndicate (1 series)
Hole In The Wall (2 series)
Breakaway (2 series)
The Edge (2 series)
Cleverdicks (1 series)
Ejector Seat (1 series)
The Answer Trap (1 series)
Moneybags (2 series)

I quite liked 1000 Heartbeats, specifically due to its minigames of smartness. I knew it was going to be a goner after at most 2 seasons though

Duel from ITV 2008 is another one. High stakes and interesting tactics. Just needed a better host.

Poker Face is the one that immediately springs to mind for me - one of the better ones in that strange "more pointless talking than action" era of gameshows (Golden Balls, Deal or no Deal, etc)

Problem with Poker Face is it didn’t matter whether you got the answers right or wrong, so that’s not a winner for me. When the format conbines being right and deploying good tactics, it’s a win win (something shows today lack).

How did it not matter? The more you got right the stronger position you were in.

But you're right, it's certainly no Hole in the Wall.

2004 quiz show Beat The Nation, which replaced Fifteen-to-One in the 2:45 pm slot on Channel 4 before Countdown, lasted half a year. Not a bad show admittedly but not a patch on Fifteen-to-One. It was also the last production by Carlton studios in Nottingham until ITV shut it down.

Secret Fortune. A cross between WWTBAM? and DoND, and it was executed brilliantly. Shame it ended when the BBC dropped the lottery draws from the telly.
A 'clever dick' and a 'dirty bastard', according to Gogglebox.
