Round 1: G A L E T A R F R

David: GRAFTER (7)
Ed: greater
DC: GRAFTER (7)
OT: REALGAR (7)
Score: 7–0 (max 7)

A great start from our champion David with his 7 Grafter but not for our challenger Ed his word is valid but there is no second E in this selection of letters..........so let's move forward

Image

Round 2: M E D O T A P O G

David: MOOTED (6)
Ed: MOATED (6)
DC: POMADE (6)
OT: DOTAGE (6) POGOED (6) POOTED (6) POTAGE (6) TAMPED (6) TOGAED (6)
Score: 13–6 (max 13)

Sixes all round..........nothing worth arguing over !

Image

Round 3: 25, 1, 1, 5, 6, 2. Target: 515.

C1: 506. (2 + 1 + 1) × 5 × 25 + 6 (5)
C2: 520. Mistake in working*timed out by Colin Murray
RR: 515. ((25 + 1) × (6 − 2) − 1) × 5 (10)
Score: 18–6 (max 23)

A very useful 5 points for our champion David.............but Ms Riley show us all how it is done by producing the perfect solution...........but our recap writer has a different way of getting there..........otherwise known as the omelette method

Image

25+1=26
6-2=4
26*4=104
104-1=103
103*5=515

Teatime teaser: DIARYHOLE -> HOLIDAYER

Round 4: T I B U L A N E R

David: BANTER (6)
Ed: lantier
DC: TRIBUNAL (8) BLUNTER (7)
OT: TENURIAL (8) TURBINAL (8) URBANITE (8)
Score: 24–6 (max 31)

Another fine round from David with his 6 Banter..........sadly Susie has to disallow Ed's 7 as it is not valid.............in the past you could get a 9 from this selection of letters Butlerian but that is invalid since the dictionary cull of July........so now eight is the max from this round.............there were quite a few of those Tribunal was the one DC spotted and Urbanite was my spot.............so nothing worth arguing over

Image

Round 5: Y A K S E L N O R

David: ALONE (5)
Ed: SNORKEL (7)
DC: SNORKEL (7)
OT: ANKYLOSE (8)
Score: 24–13 (max 39)

A superb round from Ed with his 7 Snorkel that puts him right back in it.......................but there was a rather interesting 8 missed by all with Ankylose

Image

Image

Round 6: 25, 6, 4, 5, 3, 8. Target: 943.

C1: 944. Mistake in working.
C2: -
RR: 943. (6 × 5 + 8) × 25 − 4 − 3 (10)
Score: 24–13 (max 49)

Both our champion draw a blank in this round..................Ms Riley gets to mop up and produce the perfect solution which was my solve as well

Image

Image

Round 7: N E W A R C I N R

David: CANNIER (7)
Ed: CANNIER (7)
DC: AIRCREW (7) CANINE (6)
OT: CARNIER (7)
Score: 31–20 (max 56)

Sevens all round..............let's move on shall we............nothing more to see here

Image

Image

Round 8: N U S I D E W I T

David: WIDENS (6)
Ed: WINDIEST (8)
DC: DISUNITE (8)
OT: UNITISED (8)
Score: 31–28 (max 64)

A fantastic round from our champion Ed with his 8 Windiest that reduces the arrears to 3 points with everything still left to play for..................but over in DC they spot Disunite as their 8 as does our recap writer

Image

Round 9: 100, 2, 9, 6, 9, 2. Target: 296.

C1: 296. (9 − 6) × 100 − 2 − 2 (10)
C2: 296. (9 − 6) × 100 − 2 − 2 (10)
Score: 41–38 (max 74)

A piece of piss this numbers solve..................I will go and count some sheep.......it's that easy !

Teatime teaser: MINITAPES -> IMPATIENS

Round 10: D O T E L I V A T

David: VIOLET (6)
Ed: TITLED (6)
DC: DOVETAIL (8)
OT: VIOLATED (8)
Score: 47–44 (max 82)

Sixes all round from champion and challenger nothing worth arguing over...............play nicely now............over in DC they get to show off with their 8 Dovetail................my spot was Violated

Image

Image

ImageImageImage

Round 11: D O S E P I S M E

David: SPEEDS (6)
Ed: DEMISES (7)
DC: IMPOSED (7) EPISODES (8)
OT: EPISOMES (8)
Score: 47–51 (max 90)

Another fine round from Ed that gives him a brief but narrow lead in this rather tight contest...................over in DC they get to show off with their 8 Episodes ............sadly I can only a manage a 7 with Imposed and Dispose

Image

Image

Round 12: L A N O D U N E R

David: UNLEARN (7)
Ed: UNLOADER (8)
OT: EUROLAND (8) NEURONAL (8)
Score: 47–59 (max 98)

What a badass round from our challenger Ed with his 8 Unloader that allows him to stretch his lead further.............over in DC they get to shine with their 8 Euroland which was the spot of our recap writer as well

Image

Image

Round 13: B I S C O U T S U

David: BUSTS (5)
Ed: SCOUTS (6)
DC: SCOUTS (6) CUBITS (6)
OT: CUBISTS (7) CUBITUS (7)
Score: 47–65 (max 105)

A good round from our challenger Ed with his 6 Scouts................our champion David can only manage a 5 Busts.................does he have enough in the tank to manage one final push to stay in the champions chair ? All he needs maximum points in the next to force a crucial conundrum and his 5th win

Image

Over in DC they can only manage a couple of 6s..............but our recap writer gets to shine with her 7 Cubists

Image

Round 14: 75, 8, 3, 10, 5, 10. Target: 490.

C1: 485.
C2: 489. 10 × 5 × 10 − (3 + 8) (7)
RR: 490. (10 − 3) × (75 − 5) (10)
Score: 47–72 (max 115)

Sadly not for David his 4 away solve can only mean one thing that Ed is our new champion with his 1 away and 7 points....................but Ms Riley gets to produce a perfect 10 which was the same method I used.............sadly for our champion David it is game over

Image

Image

Round 15: B A S S L I N E R

C1 buzzes on 16.75 seconds to say BRAINLESS which is correct.
Final Score: 57–72 (max 125)

We have a new champion in Ed who is the newest member of the teapot club.................... but take nothing away from David who will be happy with his 4 wins and the teapot............but the question is will they be enough for the series 90 finals ? You can join me again for the next recap..............in the meantime it is bye for now !
