Might as well have a go myself.
Rob Burrow
Jonnie Irwin
Jimmy Carter
Noam Chomsky
Vanessa Redgrave
Esther Rantzen
Glynis Johns
Yoko Ono
Frank Field
Shannen Doherty
I'll be amazed if Dick Van Dyke goes before 100 - he's one of the healthiest 98 year olds I've ever seen! I wouldn't be totally surprised if he's still here in 2030.

So was my gran. But at 98, the light can shut off at any moment. Would have gone for Doherty over him with a bit more thought though, that's a good pick.

Re: The Dead of 2024
Tbf, you're not wrong about outward appearance not being the sole predictor. There used to be two guys at my tennis who were regulars. One was in his 70s and was in better shape than most people in their 50s, and the other looked like a sudden gust of wind would take him out. The former had a sudden heart attack and died at 74, the other is still going and is now 84. I'd still be surprised if DVD went this year, though.Mark Deeks wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 11:44 am So was my gran. But at 98, the light can shut off at any moment. Patricia Routledge is a decent pick.

An ideal points system would probably take into account odds of dying (incorporating age and known illnesses) and extra points for the better known they are.Marc Meakin wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 12:18 pm As undignified as this is I deliberately have avoided picking people who already have a life threatening illness that I am aware of

Re: The Dead of 2024
I don't think you could really formulate a robust enough system for that. Does the frail 95 year old or the very ill 70 year old have a better chance of dying? How do you grade how ill someone is quantitatively? Is an 80 year old who had a heart attack in 2021 more likely to die than the 85 year old who had a bad fall in 2023?Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 1:50 pm An ideal points system would probably take into account odds of dying (incorporating age and known illnesses) and extra points for the better known they are.

Re: The Dead of 2024
We could use a free market based system. E.g. I am willing to make a market of 75 'at' 85 that Jimmy Carter dies in 2024. So you can sell 75 to me: this gives you a 75 point profit to you if he lives or a 25 point loss if he dies. Or you can buy 85: so a 15 point profit if he dies or an 85 point loss if he dies. Or you can do nothing. Or you can improve the quote on either or both sides, showing a better bid or better offer. Play money only!Elliott Mellor wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 4:56 pmI don't think you could really formulate a robust enough system for that. Richard Lewis. I know him mainly from Curb Your Enthusiasm so quite a shocker. I always thought at the beginning of Curb he looked younger than Larry David, but Larry stayed the same age, whereas Richard aged terribly and was way older looking than Larry later on.
