Dick Fosbury, who coincidentally featured in today's Only Connect final. Yeah, yeah, spoilers, but it's not much to go on. I'm not resigning for that.

It's actually pretty mental how they used to do the high jump. This video has a good evolution of it.

Will never understand how the high jump is possible. How can you jump higher than you are?

According to wiki the Fosbury flop technique was used as early as 1908 but they used sandpits so it sounds dangerousMarc Meakin wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 2:52 pm It probably deserves its own thread but I cannot think of another sportsman who was more influential in changing their sport than Dick Fosbury

Re: Deathwatch 2017
I did think watching the video that it might have been a bit difficult for the guys to do a Fosbury Flop into the sand. So maybe that was it all along. Not an innovation at all - just the obvious method waiting for proper mats.Marc Meakin wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 7:11 pmAccording to wiki the Fosbury flop technique was used as early as 1908 but they used sandpits so it sounds dangerousMarc Meakin wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 2:52 pm It probably deserves its own thread but I cannot think of another sportsman who was more influential in changing their sport than Dick Fosbury

I am huge Smiths fan and couldn't pick Rourke up from a line up.(maybe now as he'd probably be the only corpse in the line up).
Would be a good Pointless picture question to name the bass players of various bands

I realise 2016 had so many heavy hitters in the world of entertainment that its lead at the top will be tough to beat, but, 2023 is serving up some real names in the death game this year. Rolf Harris, Jerry Springer, Martin Amis, Jim Brown, Len Goodman, Harry Bellafonte, Barry Humphries, Dick Fosbury, Tom Sizemore, Raquel Welch, Burt Bacharach, Fay Weldon, Dickie Davis, Bernard Ingham, Jeff Beck, Paco Rabanne, Betty Boothroyd, Gianluca Vialli, Nigel Lawson, John Motson, Lisa Marie Presley, Doyle Brunson (hadn't even noticed this one!), Paul Cattermole, Paul O'Grady, Ken Block, David Crosby, Falcon from Gladiators, Wee Willie Harris, Mary Quant, Terrence Hardiman, Bill Tidy, Mystic Meg....we'll need a big second-half performance still, but the three points are there for the taking.

Cormac McCarthy, too. 2023 continues to put up numbers. I'm telling you, there's still a chance. Just needs one Bono-esque surprise big name and then we'll bring on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and push for the win.
