Re: Please say a prayer for David Barnard
I'd just like to affirm everything Tracey said above. He loved everything about the game and getting to the top of the apterous rankings was his second greatest achievement. Just behind being an all round top guy.
Coincidentally, it's exactly 10 years to the long weekend over which the series 67 finals were filmed, links to David's games are further up the thread.

Perhaps we could do a minute's silence at Co:MK next week?

Such a lovely guy, my favourite memory was our final at Co:Bristol a few years ago, never have I seen a more popular winner than him. RIP David.
That’s a nice idea, I’m sure that can be arranged.Richard Priest wrote: ↑Fri Nov 18, 2022 9:53 am Perhaps we could do a minute's silence at Co:MK next week?

Re: Please say a prayer for David Barnard
Super sad news - only met David once was a top guy! Haven't heard much of him since I moved to the states a few years. Any news on the funeral?
Re: Please say a prayer for David Barnard
Just awful beyond comprehension. Such a terrible end for a talented man so young. RIP David </3

Such a sad loss. Taken way too soon and condolences to his friends and family. I only remember speaking briefly with David once but he seemed like a top bloke and others have said the same. RIP David.
Probably the second tallest ever series finalist.

A tragic loss at such a young age. David was a fine Countdown player but above all, a great guy. Meeting him was always a pleasure and there was never a dull moment with him. RIP David and thanks for the memories.

Re: Please say a prayer for David Barnard
Really wish I was able to meet the guy, the only thing I've ever done with him was just say "hi" late at night on Apterous. RIP to a wonderful person.

Re: Please say a prayer for David Barnard
I remembered watching his run during CoC XIV with Andy Platt way back in 2016 days before I was enlisted into the military (I've long been discharged honorouably since) and rewatching it during the first COVID lockdown again brought me back some memories of how I spent my last week of "freedom" as I knew it back then. Close game until the very end, brilliant!
Dying at such a young age is simply too tragic and it's really a shame he's gone too soon. Deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult period of time, and may his legacy, both on-screen and on Apterous live on forever. RIP David.

I think a memorial trophy would be fitting at a future co event inviting his family to attend

I think the end of year FOCAL trophy should be called the David Barnard Memorial trophy as he was one of the most well liked and popular members of the countdown communityMarc Meakin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 9:49 am I think a memorial trophy would be fitting at a future co event inviting his family to attend

Thank you for sharing this, Mark. David was a real character within our community and I could almost see his cheeky smile and hear his witty comebacks as you were speaking. Thank you for speaking on behalf of Aptodom and for helping to give him a fitting send-off. We shan't see his like again.Mark Deeks wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 6:15 pm David's funeral service is available to watch here.

Re: David Barnard, 1991-2022
RIP David. I'm not a religious person but if there is a heaven, hopefully David will be there causing a bit of mischief and playing Countdown with all the late, sadly missed Apterites we have lost over the years.
Great eulogy from Mark, it can't have been easy. Much appreciated sir.
