Future of the forum

Post by Charlie Reams »

I just renewed the site so we're good til at least 2023. It costs about £86 a year to keep it online so if you'd like to make a small contribution to the cost, I'd be very grateful -- but the site will be here either way! (PayPal link)

Hooray!
However, the link doesn't work and I can't work out what it should be.

I thought last year's donations covered it for a few years?

I was going to look this up because it didn't seem that long ago but you saved me the effort!

I think Charlie may have mistakenly set up a single donation link?

Actually, it looks like the way it works is that when you add a PayPal Donate button to your website (as is done here), every different browser that clicks it gets a unique PayPal url (probably for their tracking purposes). Charlie probably clicked the link from this apterous page and shared the resulting url. Once one of these unique URLs has had a successful donation it stops working.

TL;DR
Use the apterous page to donate instead

Your memory is evidently better than mine! But yes, you're right -- at the current price we have enough in the kitty to cover the payment I just made and probably next year's as well. (Sadly the provider seems to have increased their prices and removed the ability to pay for more than 1 year in advance, but it's not that steep so probably fine for now.)

Sorry about the bad PayPal link, but probably for the best that it didn't work.
