WYE AYE MAN, WE'RE GOING OOT ON THE TOON AGAIN!!!
Yes, it's me again, and I'm back with Callum Todd to host yet another CO-event, and it's time to head back up to the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne, so it's time to go CoNuT again!!!
Venue:
Our venue is the PTE Social Club, just a couple of miles east of Newcastle city centre in the area of Byker (yes, as in Byker Grove). The address is Millers Road, Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne & Wear, NE6 2XP. (For a look yourselves, go here: https://www.yell.com/biz/p-t-e-social-c ... e-3977382/) Easy access from Newcastle station is available by the Metro services, the yellow line has 2 stops with easy access from the centre. Byker is 2 stops down from Monument, and the following stop is Chillingham Road, which are pretty much equidistant from the venue.
General Overview:
Presented by James Robinson and Callum Todd, using the "Bristol" classroom format and playing along with big screen virtual studio graphics:
Based on the successful introduction in COHUD 2017, we're using a group stage format, players will be drawn at random into groups of equal numbers playing heat a set number of heat matches. This means players will know at the start who they will be up against in the heats.
These will be 10-round matches, as per the current television format, bar the fact that the last part is just a conundrum (6L 3N 1C).
At the end of the heats, everyone goes into groups of eight for the quarter-finals, in order of number of wins, total points scored and +/- points difference. The winner from each heats group goes into Division A, the runner-up into Division B, third place into C and fourth place into D.
From here, everybody is seeded within their divisions to play a 9-round quarter-final (6L 2N 1C), 9-round semi-final and 14-round final (8L 4N 2C). This will be done in Swiss format, so everybody will get to play right until the end of the day.
The two finalists in Group A will sit out the mainstream final, to play the tournament’s showpiece Grand Final at around 5pm. So if you don’t make the top two, why not recharge your glass, sit back and enjoy!
Prices/Rates:
CoNuT will take place on Saturday 23 March -- doors open at 9:30am for a prompt 10:30am start, finishing at around 6-6:30pm. The admission price is set at £15 and includes a hot buffet lunch. There will be a cash bar available too.
Regular attendees of Mark Murray's Bristol tournaments have probably gone to the Za Za Bazaar down in the quays of Bristol. The only other Za Za Bazaar happens to be in Newcastle, and I have reserved a table for us to use for a nice dinner after the event. If you would like to join me and Innis for a brilliant "world banquet" (Have a look here: http://newcastle.zazabazaar.com/), then an additional payment of £15 will be required.
So, basically, if you want to come to the event and dinner, it's £30, but if you just want to attend the event, it's just £15.
As per usual, payments are available:
- By PayPal (https://www.paypal.me/JRTerrier7/30 (event and dinner) or https://www.paypal.me/JRTerrier7/15 (event only) (DON'T FORGET - Choose the "Family/Friends" option on payment.);
- By phone (0781 775 0544);
- By cheque (address available on request).
We look forward to having you join us up in the Geordie heartland!!!

BIG UPDATE!: Unfortunately, Innis has had to pull out of co-hosting the event with me, so my COHUD co-host, Callum Todd, has kindly agreed to step in.

A fantastic weekend had by all in Newcastle upon Tyne
Our new champion was James Haughton, who staged a remarkable comeback against Luke Johnson-Davies in the final, to win 94-91, after being 71-53 down at halfway.
Bradley Horrocks defeated Richard Priest in the 3rd place play-off.
Paul Talmey defeated Andrew McNamara in the Group B final, with Nathan Pace avenging his loss to Iain Sime in last year's Group B final to win the 3rd place play-off in Group B.
All good fun, and hopefully we'll return again next year!!
