Spoilers for Tuesday 18th December 2018 (Series 79, QF 4)
After a very tight and low scoring game, Alan causes a seeding upset by beating Andrew with what was apparently the lowest winning score in a QF in the 15-round era. Now we have the final two contestants, hopefully giving us another close game between two contestants with consecutive octoruns, #5 seed Dave Ashton and #6 seed Tony Manwani.
Stats time.
Dave Ashton
Points: 739 (92.375 per game)
Maxes: 41/120 (34%) (23/80 (29%) letters, 16/32 (50%) numbers, 2/8 (25%) conundrums)
Highest Score: 105 (game 2)
Lowest Score: 82 (game 4)
9s Achieved: 1/6
Tony Manwani
Points: 715 (89.375 per game)
Maxes: 40/120 (33%) (18/80 (23%) letters, 17/32 (53%) numbers, 5/8 (63%) conundrums)
Highest Score: 105 (game 2)
Lowest Score: 67 (game 6)
9s Achieved: 0/3

Decent game from Tony there. Horrible letters.

Yeah, he gave a very good show- was strong on all fronts. If he keeps this up tomorrow, then he will definitely be a threat to Martin. Dave gave some good numbers solutions too, and was not that bad on the letters either- think he would have comfortably beaten the 2 performances yesterday.

Gotta admit. Predicted Dave would win. But well done to Tony. Conundrum was very interesting for me as I have dyspraxia

I don't really have a buzzer at home. It was just a stupid joke.Owen Carroll wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 11:31 amAh. Bad luck. Looks like my Viral Fever has taken a turn for the worse yesterday afternoon, fortunately after more painkillers and medication I'm well enough again (for now) so here goes quickly before the dreaded virus attacks my body again! D:
Letters: That was some brilliant play from both of them although Tony is definitely the better one with him maxing so many rounds! Apologies but I don't have much to say here since there wasn't any excellent spots here today.
Numbers: Perfect solving from both today! Clearly Dave has been practising since we last saw him, not to mention that show off in R9! Tony's back with his six small tactic in R6 and so far it's off to a good start!
Conundrum: No, you're not making this up Tony, with that all four QF Conundrums have been solved! I got to admit I do have a bit of DYSPRAXIA but never used this word to describe my condition, rather I use the more subtle "poor hand-eye coordination". This is also why I drew a blank as well on this one...
Based on the statistics in the Preliminaries, I predicted there would be an upset here since Tony was more stable in his gameplay compared to Dave and the margin would be around 30 points. Not far off this time round as the margin was 35 points. I'm sure Dave was happy to be back there and play again but Tony had the upper hand all the way. Hopefully when you see new visitors on your job introduce them and encourage them to apply to be on the show!
Just three more episodes and we know who are the semi-finalists already, will Tony give Martin a hard time or will it be the other way round? Find out soon!
Progress:
QF1 (13 December): Martin May (#1) vs Bob Lunt (#9) (115 - 86)
QF2 (14 December): Mike Daysley (#2) vs Adam Rolston (#8) (104 - 58)
QF3 (17 December): Andrew Jackson (#3) vs Alan Duval (#7) (60 - 62)
QF4 (18 December): Dave Ashton (#5) vs Tony Manwani (#6) (79 - 114)
SF1 (19 December): Martin May (QF1 Winner) vs Tony Manwani (QF4 Winner)
SF2 (20 December): Mike Daysley (QF2 Winner) vs Alan Duval (QF3 Winner)
GF (21 December): (SF1 Winner) vs (SF2 Winner)

I'm sure I've seen "autogas" used by one or two filling stations over here, obviously with a quite different meaning as the price given for it was noticeably lower than the price given for petrol or diesel.

As in that stuff that contradicts itself about whether it's a liquid or a gas?
