Sorry to hijack , what is essentially your thread Ben but as I can't make any new threads i thought i would put it here.
I call it name chain, where you start with say Ben Elton the n go to Elton John and continue with , say, John Leslie.
I wonder who could make the longest chain.
I think all names should at least have a wiki page.
I have done twelve starting with my example.
Btw, feel free to make this a quiz thread

Having never tried, this feels like something you could do indefinitely. But I bet it's much harder than that.
Is there not a rule about not using a particular name (John) twice?

Well, it's not that it's harder than that. It's just a case of whether there's a rule about it.
Mark Deeks wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2017 8:10 pm John Collins (footballer)

If you want indefinite, that's all you need right there.

But obviously if all the people have to be different, then obviously you can't continue indefinitely. Continuing indefinitely is either very easy or impossible, depending on the rules. But definitely not hard.

Stop being so Gevin. Obviously you can't use the same person (or even same identical name) twice, but whether or not you can use an individual name part (John) more than once is up for discussion.

Yeah fine. I mean, I did realise you meant this but I didn't think much of your intuition that you could continue indefinitely if you could.

I think it's actually William Axl Rose, but he's always been best known as Axl, so I guess it's fine if soundalikes are OK (similarly John Leslie - Lesley Josephs only works if homophones count).
