Re: Deathwatch 2017
Still a couple of days to get entries in for this and plenty of very likely candidates not yet mentioned.
Graham Taylor was completely out of the blue, I think, so no surprises that nobody had thought of him. Similarly Lord Snowdon, although old, had no known health problems so I think it would have been a bit of a stretch for anyone to have considered him in the first place.
Another fairly big name who died yesterday was William Peter Blatty, author of "The Exorcist". It's actually a really good book and - well, I think - more effective than the film (for which he also wrote the screenplay) because it doesn't rely on the shock-horror moments which made the film famous. It's very creepy.

Edit - Actually, not attributing it to the Mandela effect is the Mandela effect in action because it is the Mandela effect. Or something.

1. Jim Bentley: 45 + 40 + 25 + 25 (2 x bonus) = 135 points
Sorry everyone. I'm alarming myself now with my precognitive abilities. If another one of them goes this month I'll be getting seriously worried.
Joost van der Westhuizen died today at a too-young 45. This is sad. But on the plus side, I am on the board! 75 for his age plus 25 for being the first equals a strong and healthy 100 point scorer.
Standings @ 06/02/17:
1. Jim Bentley: 45 + 40 + 25 + 25 (2 x bonus) = 135 points
2. Mark Deeks: 75 + 25 (1 x bonus) = 100 points
3. Everyone else = 0 points unless they've scored but haven't said anything.

Possibly not a great surprise but Emma Marano - formerly the world's oldest person - has died today at the age of 117. I think this also means that the only people who are living now were born in or after 1900 (but will have to check that out).

I came here to post about that actually. It's weird because I was looking at the Wikipedia list of oldest people just today, and she was there as the oldest living person. And yes, she was the last from the 1800s (that's been officially verified or something). A couple of links.JimBentley wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2017 6:37 pm Possibly not a great surprise but Emma Marano - formerly the world's oldest person - has died today at the age of 117. Charlie Murphy, Eddie Murphy's brother died the other day. He was a decent comedian in his own right but I would advise checking out his true hollywood stories featured on the dave chapelle show if you haven't seen them. The reenactment of the stories about meeting Prince and Rick James are among the funniest things I've ever seen.

RIP Emma Morano (29/11/1899-15/04/2017) You'll be missed.
There are 2 people left from 1900, the oldest of who becomes world's oldest living person on the same day her son turns 97.
