Countdown Bristol 2017
I am delighted to announce that CO BRIS (Bristol) 2017 is definitely happening and has been confirmed for Saturday 18th February 2017
Bristol County Sports Club
40 Colston St, Bristol, Avon BS1 5AE
http://www.bristolcountysportsclub.co.uk/
Location on Google Maps: http://tinyurl.com/ksaw8ss
Presented by Mark Murray and Jeff Clayton, everybody competes in seven 9r games, in the traditional classroom setup:
Instead of the planned divisional format, it will now be a swiss tournament style 9 rounder format with everyone playing 7 games.
This does mean an increase of games from the original format (from 6 to 7), though it does mean removal of divisions and removal of the 15 rounder heat matchesl
The grand final will still be played out as a 15 rounder showpiece
Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd
Doors open at 9am for a 10am start, with free tea & coffee available on arrival.
A buffet lunch will be provided at 12:30pm and light refreshments will be on sale from the bar throughout the day. (Please advise of dietary requirements, where necessary.)
There will also be a raffle with all proceeds going directly to FOCAL 2017. Appreciate any donated prizes/unwanted xmas presents etc
The grand final starts at or just after 5pm, and we conclude with the prizegiving by 6pm -- prizes will be on offer for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in every group.
Admission costs just £15pp and you can secure your place now:
- By PayPal (markmurray97@hotmail.com- Please ensure when sending money by paypal that paying family/friends otherwise the full amount will not come through)
- By phone (07527 907065);
- By cheque (address available on request).
We have capacity for 40 contestants ; spectators are also welcome. Numbers were near the capacity this year so please book early to avoid disappointment
-----
The Club is in a prime city centre location:
- If you're travelling by train, get off at Temple Meads and high frequency bus routes 8 & 9 (up to every six minutes combined) depart from the station forecourt. These will drop you off at the Hippodrome just a short walk from the venue.
- If you're coming by car, you can avoid the cost of city centre parking with the Park & Ride buses from A4 Bath Road, A4 Portway and Long Ashton -- please check http://www.travelwest.info/parkandride for details including times of last buses back to the car park.
Accommodation: there are a lot of hotels around central Bristol, but parking can be an issue. The ones below are just some of the hotels in Bristol, but there are a few more
- Travelodge Anchor Road: - hotel parking £7.50 for 24 hours.
- Hotel Mercure: (on-street parking can cost approx £4; secured NCP £15/24hrs).
- Hotel Ibis: £10/24hrs parking at nearby car park.
- Premier Inn: (no onsite parking)
- Novotel, Holiday Inn
Following the popularity of Zazabazaar over the last couple of years, we will go for a meal there too. Payments for this can either be made in advance (paypal markmurray97@hotmail.com Please ensure when sending money by paypal that paying family/friends otherwise the full amount will not come through)

Happy to answer any questions, and if you need any help with planning your journey or your stay, send me a PM!
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Suggestion: If you don't want to use Park & Ride, Trenchard Street car park is about 5 mins walk away.
COUNTDOWN or THE TUBE? Which is better? There's only one way to find out....

Btw, what the other way? As it says Payments for this can either be made in advance (paypal markmurray97@hotmail.com Please ensure when sending money by paypal that paying family/friends otherwise the full amount will not come through), and the either suggests there is an alternative! I would just like to know as I am 90% sure I'll be coming to this!

The "alternative" wording only refers to the option of Zsa Zsa Bazaar . Although, If you don't have paypal, I am open to accepting a bank transfer for the admission fee.

No offence, but "Zsa Zsa" is irritating me. There are no Ss, it's just Za Za!

Re: Countdown Bristol 2017
Just to confirm, am I OK to cover the ZaZa actually on the day, or will there be a cut off point? Having some Paypal issues atm, so just want to make sure I'm not gonna have problems at any point
Possibly the first contestant to accelerate with a mic clipped...

Re: Countdown Bristol 2017
No that's fine . As long as I know the final numbers on who will be dining at least 24 hours in advance, I can collect remaining payments on the day.Zarte Siempre wrote:Just to confirm, am I OK to cover the ZaZa actually on the day, or will there be a cut off point? The option to pay in advance is to make life easier for both people that want to get the payment out of the way and for me with not having to worry about collecting so much money on the day)

Re: Countdown Bristol 2017
My current plan is to not play at the event, but do that thing where I turn up late and then am around for the evening, with said evening to include the buffet. Will you hate me if I do this?

I don't know if charm works on you to make you change your mind to play on the day, but here goes. "how could anyone possibly hate you?!"Mark Deeks wrote:My current plan is to not play at the event, but do that thing where I turn up late and then am around for the evening, with said evening to include the buffet. Seriously tho, if you do decide to come for the meal, let me know at least 24 hours in advance and if you want it pay the meal to me by PayPal or on day, that's fine

I might just get my own buffet and sit at a different table to you all, throwing bits at you and flicking the Vs. Haven't decided yet.

You can try, but I have it on good authority from the establishment that you will be politely asked to leaveMark Deeks wrote:I might just get my own buffet and sit at a different table to you all, throwing bits at you and flicking the Vs. Haven't decided yet.

Re: Countdown Bristol 2017
Instead of the planned divisional format, it will now be a swiss tournament style 9 rounder format with everyone playing 7 games.
This does mean an increase of games from the original format (from 6 to 7), though it does mean removal of divisions and removal of the 15 rounder heat matchesl
The grand final will still be played out as a 15 rounder showpiece
Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd
