Problems with Java

Post by Joyce Phillips »

Can anyone help me to get back on to Apterous? Java is not letting me do it and despite following instructions about security I'm going round in circles. Ay help would be gratefully received!

I'm seeing the same problem, and changing browser doesn't help. Charlie (if you see this), has the outage last night caused an issue with the Java certificate somehow?

Same here - can't get in with Firefox or Chrome. I've added apterous.org as an exception but that didn't help.

I went on the Java website, checked to see if my version was up-to-date and then downloaded the latest version. Apterous works for me on all the main browsers since doing this.

I'm trying these solutions with no joy. Have downloaded Java update and was using IE anyway. Will try Chrome and see if it helps. Not sure what to try next if it doesn't.

Incidentally have tried adding apterous as an exception and like John, have had no luck. I'd hate to think I may never play you all again!

I have Java version 8 update 25 if that helps. I keep being told that I have the latest available.

I'm using Java version 7 update 71 on Chrome and have no problems. Maybe uninstall and try that version instead?

I was having similar issues; I don't know if this will work for you guys, but after hours of wrangling with java I noticed that it said "apterous.org" in my address bar. Changing that to "www.apterous.org" allowed me to get back on.

Anyone having fresh problems today? For the last 2 months (since I started using again) I always got the message "This site will soon be unsupported" (or similar) when the Java game window was loading, it seems today is the day that it ceases to be supported. I've tried updating Java (which used to solve these problems) to no avail. It appears that Chrome no longer supports any Java? I've even enabled Java here ....chrome://flags/#enable-npapi..... but still no luck. I found this info on a chrome page also "To make browsing with Chrome safer, faster and more stable, we stopped allowing NPAPI plug-ins on 1 September 2015.". I don't think updating my Chrome version (42 I think) will solve anything either as it sounds like it's a case of 'the newer the Chrome version the less likley Java is to work'. Has anyone else has this problem this week and overcome it? Thanks!

I'm on Chrome 44 but didn't update Java and it worked for me but others have had issues and have had to use Firefox or maybe IE to play the game.

I know it's not the right thread, but I'm hijacking it anyway. I can't sign in to Apterous, I just get a blank window. Any ideas anyone?

You on Firefox? I'm having the same issue unless I use Edge.

Yep. Bugger, I might have to dust off that browser then.

Oddly, my work laptop is working on Firefox. Charlie also told me he has no problems on Firefox, so whilst it's widespread it's not complete. Will work with him to help solve it when I get home.
