Let's see how he gets along. Enjoy.

Round 1: I A E "W" N R A D S
C1: NAIADES (7)
C2: wainers
OT: ARANEIDS (8)
Score: 7–0 (max 8)
A nice start from Giles, as Nick seems to say wailers, then spells wainers, both wrong either which way.
NOTE: The "W" is actually an upside "M", so a possible 9 of MARINADES was missed there...........................
Round 2: H R E O T D E D A
C1: HEARTED (7)
C2: HEARTED (7)
DC: THREADED (8)
Score: 14–7 (max 16)
Both go whole HEARTED with their 7's, while DC go one better as they THREADED that round up.
Round 3: 75, 6, 9, 10, 7, 7. Target: 863.
C1: 860. ((75 + 9) x 10) + 7 + 7 + 6 (7)
C2: 866. Mistake in working.
Me: 863. ((75 + ((9 - 7) x 6)) x 10) - 7 (10)
Score: 21–7 (max 26)
Hmmm, a tricky numbers for Giles at last. He manages to get within 3, as Nick admits that he messed up his 3 away the other way. Amazingly, Rachel doesn't get this ! So, I'll just show you my (and Tony Atkins') method instead instead.
Teatime teaser: SAMGAINS -> AMASSING
Round 4: R T U S E U R N I
C1: TURNERS (7)
C2: RETURNS (7)
DC: INSURER (7) UNSURE (6)
OT: NURTURES (8)

C1: 515. ((100 - 7) x 6) - 50 + 8 - 1 (7)
C2: 515. ((6 - 1) x 100) + 8 + 7 (7)
RR: 513. (50 x 8) + 6 + 7 + 100 (10)
Score: 42–21 (max 51)
Hmmm, still no maths maximum from the contestants, but a perfect solve from our Rach.
Richard talks about his habit of forgetting peoples names including the name of his boss at Border Television and his first wife
Round 7: T W A E T S A O D
C1: TOASTED (7)
C2: SWATTED (7)
DC: SWOTTED (7) TOSTADA (7)
Score: 49–28 (max 58)
A few 7's there, although Rachel's infectious laugh throughout the selection was more than noticeable. I wonder why............
Round 8: L A O R F M I H O
C1: MOHAIR (6)
C2: MOHAIR (6)
DC: FORMAL (6)
OT: HALOFORM (8)
Score: 55–34 (max 66)
A very impressive 8 is available there, but it's 6's all round here.
A HALOFORM is a compound with the formula CHX3, where X is a halogen atom.
Round 9: 50, 5, 10, 7, 6, 6. Target: 239.

Score: 73–44 (max 84)
Half a dozen 8's here, and Giles gets one of them to increase his lead even further.
An ARSENIDE is a compound containing two elements of which arsenic is the negative one, as silver arsenide, Ag3As.
SIDEREAL is an adjective meaning determined by or from the stars.
Round 11: N G T I E I S C O
C1: EGOISTIC (8)

OT: ISOGENIC (8)
Score: 81–44 (max 92)

Round 14: 25, 100, 10, 6, 7, 1. Target: 368.
C1: 368. ((10 + 6 - 1) x 25) - 7 (10)
C2: 364.
Score: 105–50 (max 116)
INDEED HE CAN!!! Another tip top show from Giles. Can he now get 4 conundrums on the spin
Round 15: S P I N A L G U T
C1 buzzes on 1.75 second to say PULSATING which is correct.
Final Score: 115–50 (max 126)
OH YEAH BABY!!! Although, he does get slightly berated by Nick H for "being too slow".
So, the remarkable run of Giles carries on. 483 points already!!! He's currently #2 seed, amazing considering that both Sam McElhinney and Rachael Moran have played 4 wins, but has already more points than both of them An average of 120.75 is just super staggering, whoever you are.
Surely octochampdom beckons
I'll be back tomorrow to insert another page in the Hutchings books.
See you then, bye bye.

A nice start from Giles, as Nick seems to say wailers, then spells wainers, both wrong either which way.
NOTE: The "W" is actually an upside "M", so a possible 9 of MARINADES was missed there...........................
I'm rather annoyed though, pretty sure I would have been able to see that 9.

Is that N in the bottom picture sitting so high compared to the other letters because it too is upside down?

It could be either. As soon as Nick declared it, Susie mentioned that both SWATTED and SWOTTED were in the selection and the ODE so he wasn't asked to confirm his spelling of it...
