After Kerry’s special success yesterday, it’s time for another special match, a Series 65 husband and wife game.

C1: Challenger Jayshree Patel. Series 65 ear candler who lost by 3 points to orange-trousered runner-up Carl Williams in his last game.
C2: Challenger Magnus Mackereth. Once believed to be James Nguyen, he lost by 25 points to Drew Halliburton who was a four-time winner, not a five-time winner as Nick said.
DC: Susie Dent and Jon Culshaw.
RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.

Round 1: S O B D E I T L N

C1: BOILED (6)
C2: BOLDEST (7)
DC: BLONDEST (8)
OT: BLINDEST (8)
Score: 0–7 (max 8)

Magnus takes the first round as Jon tells about BLONDEST; A supermodel once looked at the moon and said something along the lines of ‘One day, that could be a place for people to, like, go.’

Round 2: P F S A E G C I L

C1: SPECIAL (7)
C2: SPECIAL (7)
DC: PIGFACES (8)
OT: PELAGICS (8)
Score: 7–14 (max 16)

How fitting that both contestants should get SPECIAL in a special episode. A special marriage, as Jon says.

PIGFACES are infact an Australian flower.

Round 3: A M C E T U D T N

C1: TAUNTED (7)
C2: MUTATED (7)
DC: TAUNTED (7) also, cuing Jon to imitate some French taunters in Monty Python.
OT: ATTUNED (7) MUTATED (7) TAUNTED (7) UNTAMED (7)
Score: 14–21 (max 23)

First pancake of the game and it’s seven apiece.

Round 4: S T N E A U S L O

C1: SALUTES (7)
C2: STOLEN (6)
DC: TOUSLES (7) TALONS (6)
OT: SOUTANES (8)
Score: 21–21 (max 31)

Jayshree has levelled the scores with that seven, but there’s an 8 in there.

Round 5: 100, 7, 3, 5, 6, 4. Target: 442.

C1: 441.
C2: 442. 4*100+7*6 (10)
Score: 21–31 (max 41)

Jayshree misses this rather easy numbers game allowing Magnus to get a 10-point lead.

Jon Culshaw’s Guest Time: Jon talks about Tom Baker not wanting to pronounce tarpaulins correctly for a garden centre advert, so the creators of the advert had to use the one time he pronounced it right – shouting it to claim it was wrong.

Teatime teaser: IRIDBALL -> BILLIARD

Round 6: Y R A E T H O V D

C1: HOVER (5)
C2: HEARTY (6)
DC: HYDRATE (7)
OT: THREADY (7)
Score: 21–37 (max 48)

More points for Magnus with that there 6.

Round 7: R E I O F H W E L

C1: HOWLER (6)
C2: WHEEL (5)
DC: WHEREOF (7)
Score: 27–37 (max 55)

Must mention Jon’s Rolf Harris impression here – ‘I know whereof I speak.’

Round 8: A U I O T G D S E

C1: OUTSIDE (7)
C2: OUTSIDE (7)
DC: GODETIAS (8)
OT: GAUDIEST (8) GODETIAS (8)
Score: 34–44 (max 63)

GODETIAS making yet another appearance.

Round 9: B R Q U T P E I N

C1: EQUIP (5)
C2: INPUT (5)
DC: TURBINE (7) TRIBUNE (7)
OT: BRIQUET (7)
Score: 39–49 (max 70)

OoW: Susie talks about the origins of girls and boys. And by that I mean the words ‘girl’ and ‘boy’, not... never mind.

Round 10: 75, 9, 10, 4, 5, 8. Target: 528.

C1: 526. (8-(5-4))*75+(10-9) (7)
C2: 530. 10-4+9-8*75+5 (7)
RR: 528. ((9+5)*4+10)*8 (10)
Score: 46–56 (max 80)

As many of you may have spotted, Rachel could have just done 75-9 to get the 66.

Teatime teaser: SOFTACID -> FACTOIDS

Round 11: K G O R M A U O S

C1: GROOMS (6)
C2: GROOMS (6)
DC: AMOROUS (7) ORGASM (6)
Score: 52–62 (max 87)

Oh, and there was ORGASM for 6.
For 6? Must have been a multi orgasm.

Round 12: N S T I E M U D O

C1: STUDIO (6)
C2: mounties
DC: DISMOUNT (8)
OT: DEMOUNTS (8) MUDSTONE (8)
Score: 58–62 (max 95)

Finally, the 10-point gap is broken and Jayshree has moved up to only 4 behind as mountie* is still capitalised.

Round 13: T I Z M N A D E S

C1: MAIDENS (7)
C2: MAIDENS (7)
DC: MEDIANTS (8)
Score: 65–69 (max 103)

Unless Jayshree makes another numbers mistake like she did in R5, it looks like it’ll go all the way...

Round 14: 75, 9, 8, 3, 2, 4. Target: 682.

C1: 682. 9*75+8-(4-3) (10)
C2: 682. 9*75+4+3 (10)
Score: 75–79 (max 113)

And it will! Fingers on buzzers...

Final Score: 85–79 (max 123)

JAYSHREE HAS WON!

And Jayshree wins it! Having never had the lead for the whole game, this is impressive.

Service will resume as normal on Monday, with Andy Rossall going for his third win.

Score: 85-79

RAUNSWC would be good for competitive Spoilage Numbers Attacks.
Mike Brown: "Round 12: T N R S A E I G U
