Special Spoilers For Monday March 12th 2012
A new week of Countdown begins and ends today thanks to the Cheltenham Festival, but the production team have decided to put a special show on in today's slot.
And for the first time in these specials we have a sibling rivalry with alternate sexes, as the Series 64 Humphrieses, Jamie & Jordan go head to head to find out who is the best Countdowner of the Humphries household.
No statistics, as they only did 4 shows between them, so a little reminder in case you can't remember 1 year ago.
Jamie appeared soon after Adam Gillard became octochamp and won 2 shows before cruelly losing to Jody Sparrow in his 3rd game. Whereas, Jordan might not have won her game, but she put in a very commendable performance against our very own Tony Atkins back in May.
Who will come out tops today I wonder............
Pam Ayres will remain in DC for today's matchup too.
Join me for the recap later.

DESPAIRS for an 8, DC beater in round 1
PAROTID for a 7, DC equaller in round 6
RURALISE for an 8, DC equaller in round 9 (edited to say: RURALISE was in ODE2r, but not in ODE3 apparently )
My method of avoiding embarrassment by running words I've spotted but I'm not sure are valid through LEXPLORER before posting here, didn't work this time, as it appears to be out of date on this. Mike Brown has filed a ticket on apterous for a dictionary change.
SNOTTIER for an 8, DC equaller in round 11

2nd numbers one away:
(6 * 6 * 8 - 7) * 3 - 4 = 839
(6 * 6 * 8 - 7) * 3 - 4 = 839

I just came on to post that.
Good entertaining game of Countdown today, I would have won comfortably as got the 1st numbers round, 839 on 2nd numbers, METHODIZE and the conundrum. I don't think I would have got the conundrum if it was on apterous though, would have been unsure on the exact spelling but knew what it actually was virtually straight away.

Just too slow Martin! Thanks Julie - saw it late as I was trying to factor 840 with 7*6 and go from there, as I expect Rachel did (can't remember what she actually wrote).

ORECTIC was there in round 3.

7 * 6 * (8 - 3) * 4 = 840, was my method for 2 away, which Rachel also got, but wrote it slightly differently.Bob De Caux wrote:Just too slow Martin! Thanks Julie - saw it late as I was trying to factor 840 with 7*6 and go from there, as I expect Rachel did (can't remember what she actually wrote).
She said 1 away was possible, though, but she didn't know how - maybe a computer solver is used in the background? About time Countdown joined the 21st century!

Re: Special Spoilers For Monday March 12th 2012
I am glad Jordan finally got her teapot as I stopped her hopes of one last time. Strangely I was only rewatching our game this afternoon as I am preparing to give a talk on "The Countdown Experience". She said before that getting 74 was "not good enough" and that she would get a "great slagging off" because she lost, despite Jeff saying Jamie "should be proud of how well" she had done. I was hoping one of the players would get their balloons out again, but perhaps Nick wouldn't appreciate that!

Sorry Mark, Jamie is not my type, but some viewers would have enjoyed him making a balloon animal like he did last year.Mark Deeks wrote:Very direct approach you've got to courting.I was hoping one of the players would get their balloons out again

I agree, it is amazing what you can do with a bit of practice.Tony Atkins wrote:Sorry Mark, Jamie is not my type, but some viewers would have enjoyed him making a balloon animal like he did last year.Mark Deeks wrote:Very direct approach you've got to courting.Tony Atkins wrote:I was hoping one of the players would get their balloons out again
