2011 Summer Knockout (Round 1 Match-Ups)
2011 Summer Knockout (Round 1 Match-Ups)
Here we go. It's time to reveal the match-ups in all of the brackets the 2011 Summer Knockout. This is still waiting for approval in the tournament system, so for now, you must post the results of your games on this thread.
EDIT: If games have been decided, I will bold the winner, and also in the open, update the play in games as needed.
Open:
A brief explanation of this first round. There are 7 play-in games, based on the seeds. Round 1 will consist of both the play in games and the standard first round. Those who are not part of the play in game will have the standard week, those who are waiting for a play-in opponent will have a week by the time the appropriate play-in match is posted; in other words, your week doesn't start until that time. As a result, this round will potentially take up to two weeks.
Open Play in Games:
#32 James Leroux vs #33 Jordan F.
#31 James Wilson vs #34 Sophie Krol
#30 James Levinson vs #35 Andy Platt
#29 James Bradley vs #36 Andy Wilson
#28 Lesley Hines vs #37 Thomas Carey
#27 Lauren Hamer vs #38 Chris Marshall
#26 Peter Lee vs #39 Rhys Benjamin
Open Round 1 Games:
#1 Innis Carson vs #33 Jordan F.
#2 Adam GIllard vs Winner of James Wilson vs Sophie Krol
#3 James Robinson vs Winner of James Levinson vs Andy Platt
#4 James Nguyen vs Winner of James Bradley vs Andy Wilson
#5 Josh Hurst vs Winner of Lesley Hines vs Thomas Carey
#6 Ryan Taylor vs Winner of Lauren Hamer vs Chris Marshall
#7 Stuart Arnot vs Winner of Peter Lee vs Rhys Benjamin
#8 Hugh Binnie vs #25 Ian Dent
#9 Ben Wilson vs #24 Jamie French
#10 Scott Gillies vs #23 Ian Volante
#11 Marcus Hares vs #22 Karen Pearson
#12 Chris Hare vs #21 Edwin Mead
#13 Drew Halliburton vs #20 John Gillies
#14 Graeme Cole vs #19 Joseph Krol
#15 Matthew Tassier vs #18 Mark James
#16 Jonathan Wynn vs #17 Liam Tiernan
U1400:
For this bracket, since there is a higher ratio of people who depend on a play in game related to pool size, round 1 will be only the play in games.
#16 Jordan F vs #17 Sophie Krol (Winner to play #1 John Gillies)
#15 James Leroux vs #18 Andy Platt (Winner to play #2 Edwin Mead)
#14 James Wilson vs #19 Andy Wilson (Winner to play #3 Karen Pearson)
#13 Steve Balog vs # 20 Thomas Carey (Winner to play #4 Ian Volante)
#12 James Levinson vs #21 Chris Marshall (Winner to play #5 Jamie French)
#11 James Bradley vs #22 Rhys Benjamin (Winner to play #6 Ian Dent)
The number 7-10 seeds (Peter Lee, Phil Collinge, Lauren Hamer, and Lesley Hines in that order), do not depend on a play in game, and their match-ups will be posted when round 2 starts.
U1200:
The top 4 seeds (Steve Balog, James Wilson, James Leroux, and myself in that order) will have first round byes. Everybody else must play in round 1.
#8 Thomas Carey vs #9 Supee Juachan (Winner to play Steve Balog)
#7 Andy Wilson vs #10 Chris Marshall (Winner to play James Wilson)
#6 Andy Platt vs #11 Sam Hodkin (Winner to play James Leroux)
#5 Sophie Krol vs #12 Rhys Benjamin (Winner to play Jordan F)
U1000:
This is the most streamlined. Since there is an even 4 people, this week will be the semi-finals, and next will be the final.
#1 Supee Juachan vs #4 Rhys Benjamin
#2 Chris Marshall vs #3 Sam Hodkin

Tight game decided on the conundrum, not helped by my being deep in Scrabble study.

Open:
Jordan F 93- James Leroux 67
http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?ke ... 1143068209
I honestly was worried that I'd have blown it at some points due to not going for it on gambles, but I ended up holding on, good effort from James. I move on to play Innis.

Thanks James and sorry again the game was disrupted so often. If your concentration was affected i'd still be more than happy to replay it. I thought it was more likely to affect me to be honest, but it seems all my recent thrashings from prime haven't been a waste of time after all. Fingers crossed I'll qualify to play you again in the u1200 and we can do it again anyway.James Wilson wrote:http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=483081

I'll edit specific results later...today your time, tomorrow mine, and I'll need some time to make a call with the no show matches. I'll be fairly flexible in a lot of them because I think a lot of people were depending on the tournament system, which never came through.

Alright. So, with the whole tournament system thing not panning out, and me realizing that I probably should have done more to let players know about matches, I'm going to make a call and extend this round 1 by a week.

Well done Steve.
R10 was a 29s spot [actually so was R5, I wasn't quite firing on all cylinders in the first third], basically me being stubborn in general at numbers about targets I -know- are there (3XX, divisible by 6, no way it can't be done with a 2 and a 3 there). This has gotten me in trouble when people pick 6 small.
EDIT: Also just noticed the last numbers game was the 7,000,000th round played on apterous if the round counting numbering system is to be believed (only noticed because LOQUITUR was round 6,999,999).

Never knew it was disallowed! I'm off on holiday for a week on Tuesday so playing the match might enable us to stay on schedule.Karen Pearson wrote:Matthew Tassier wrote:Karen Pearson wrote: Am I supposed to be playing Andy now or is this just advance notice of the next round?Just advance notice.Jordan wrote: U1400:
For this bracket, since there is a higher ratio of people who depend on a play in game related to pool size, round 1 will be only the play in games.Jordan F wrote: #13 Steve Balog vs # 20 Thomas Carey (Winner to play #4 Ian Volante)Ian Volante wrote:When are you free to play Steve? From what Jordan has said to me I don't think he has an issue with you playing early.Karen Pearson wrote:Oi! If I'm not allowed to jump the gun, then neither are you!!!
Because R1 has been extended there's no requirement to play this week but you can if you want to.

Re: 2011 Summer Knockout (Round 1 Match-Ups)
Yea, I don't think Jordan will have any problem with Ian and I playing before the round is technically "over". I think by round 1 he means a time frame for the play in games.
EDIT: @Ian, I'm US but am usually on most days. Later your time will probably be better. There's times I'll be on before bed when some players just get up.

There are no such things as methods. Only madness.

Jordan's been a tad busy as of late, so you may have to sit tight and wait.
