Wednesday 18 May 2011 (Series 64, Prelim 88)

Post by Thomas Carey »

Welcome. This is my first recap (apart from some 1989 ones) so will probably fail but I have just had to step in at short notice so, here goes.
(Edit: Turns out I wasn't supposed to do this recap anyhow. Pardon my stupidity.)

Enjoy the show.

Jeff talks about Helen Sharman, the first Brit in space, 20 years from today. Coincidentally she worked for Mars :D . Rachel says she wouldn't want to go in space because she got locked in a suitcase when she was young.

Countdown recap for Wednesday 18 May 2011.

C1: Champion Tom Barnes (6 wins, 640 points.), an Aptoforumite from West Hampstead in London. He is a friend of Ned Pendleton who was an octochamp back in February, and they are going on a tour of the USA in the summer where (according to Jeff) they will be discussing who is better at Countdown, so a bit of pressure on Tom there. Mind you, he's been playing really well over the last 6 episodes so shouldnt be too hard for him.
C2: Challenger Brian Gale. He and his wife have been married for 46 years and have 6 grandchildren and 2 chihuahuas.
DC: Susie Dent and Delia Smith.
RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.

Round 15: U P O N T E L L Y

No one buzzes. The answer was OPULENTLY.

Only one of the audience gets it this time.

So Tom only needs 1 more for octochampdom. Can he make it?

I'm sure it's fine. I imagine it's easier to amend the series than for Rhys to go to the effort of doing a full new recap. Also he is doing tomorrow so I'm sure it's not too bad. Probably edit your post above to reduce the amount of smileys? It hurts my eyes?

Please?
