C4C Awards 2010 (The Charlies)

Post by Joseph Krol »

Was just reading the following thread: http://www.c4countdown.co.uk/viewtopic. ... 91&start=0 and thought that the general premise was a very good idea. For about a year now the people have been voting and we seem in favour of it going ahead. If anyone else wants to lay claim to the idea, so be it, but if no-one else can be bothered/wants to I'm happy to. Assuming it goes ahead, PM me with any nominations, I'll come up with a few, and I'll post them a soon as I can after Series 63 is over. All awards will have an 'other' option, but please specify! Voting is done by PMing me with the category and recipient and closes at 2200 hrs 25 Dec 2010, but may be extended if necessary. The results will be posted on either 30 Dec or 31 Dec, depending on when I can do it.

The current categories are listed here (this list is subject to change, please PM me before 17 Dec if you have any suggestions):

Best player of 2010
Best player of Series 62 (other than best player of 2010)
Best player of Series 63 (other than best player of 2010)
Best non-finalist (player who didn’t reach the QFs)
Best word by player
Best numbers solution by player
Best conundrum solve by player
Rachel’s best outfit
Rachel’s best numbers solve
Funniest Jeff joke
Most entertaining DC guest
Most annoying DC guest
Best DC find
Worst miss by player
Worst miss by DC
Worst miss by Rachel
Best conundrum scramble
Best comeback

As I have said before, anyone who claims to have originally come up with the idea/ wants to help organising it please comment and I'll pass all/some of the duties onto you.

Best word by player: ZETETIC by Oliver, IMAMATE By Eoin.
Rachel’s best outfit: I always try to leave out the Rachel comments as I find them a bit creepy, but watch out for her Dress in the final of s63.
Most annoying DC guest: John Gaunt
Best DC find: QUODLIBET
Worst miss by player: REFINED, by me.

Edit: There's also stuff from the finals still to come that would be worth nominating. Sorry If it makes me a prick to nominate myself, but SHITFACE has to be one of the most memorable words of the year, whether that makes it one of the best or not I don't know.

Coincidentally, I added that to the nomination list myself Kai!

By the way, I added at least one nomination to each category, and I am withdrawing the option to vote 'other' apart from if there is only one nomination for a category. Currently, the categories with a single nomination are:

Rachel’s best outfit (but if Jack is true to his word, I will probably add her outfit for the final too)
Rachel’s best numbers solve
Best Jeff joke
Funniest find by contestant
Most entertaining DC guest
Worst miss by player
Worst miss by DC
Worst miss by Rachel
Best comeback
Most likable player

Please can you suggest ideas for these categories before the others. Otherwise, feel free to nominate for the other categories.

Thanks,

Joseph

Thanks to some substantial nominations by James Robinson, there are now only two categories with a single nomination in:

-Worst miss by DC
-Worst miss by Rachel

Please send me some nominations, then I can get rid of all the 'Other' things in the word document I typed them all into.

Thanks for your help,

When I saw MWM had quoted this I did not expect the post to revolve around onions.

Are you calling Jack an onion? My brother has a little cuddly monkey someone gave him once called Mr. Onions. It was named after a client he had on a database at his work called Lesley Onions.

P.S. I absolutely fucking love red onions.

Sorry to be a prick, but I'll have to burst your bubble. They have software in the production room for checking words against an electronic version of the ODE, although the print version is still canonical in the event of a dispute. The software can also find anagrams, so if you check BLOTIQUED it will suggest QUODLIBET, or something like that. It might be able to do longest-word-from type things, or maybe just exact anagrams, I don't exactly know the details. One way or another, QUODLIBET came from the computer.

IIRC, that game was filmed at the end of February (the day after the specials were filmed) so anything after that doesn't count. That does mean that Charlie was in the studio at the time, when he and Damian were young and still in love ( ;) ) but all other circumstances are - er - circumstantial.

This. Also DC sometimes leave out some words they get (so I hear) if they're constantly beating opponents as to not put them down. Also, sometimes Jeff doesn't ask DC if they had anything else.
