Really? I always assumed the 18 points for a nine-letter word had been the case since forever. In Episode 77 from the same series they seem to have awarded 18 points for BREEZIEST, so did they change the rules mid-series?

Yeah - both rules changed at the start of the 'qualifying prelims', i.e. Episode 66.
