Unbroadcast special

Any recaps from older series should be posted here. This forum is unlikely to contain spoilers, but recaps may contain "forward references" if they are written much later, so approach with caution.

Unbroadcast special

Post by Charlie Reams »

This unbroadcast game was "leaked" to me by an "insider" ages ago and I finally got around to "recapping" it. (I wonder if we can get it on Wikileaks?) I believe it was recorded at the same time as the other specials, i.e. sometime around 2003, but for some reason never made it to the screen. The contestants were two charming ladies who'd done well on the show back in the day.

C1: Joyce Cansfield, winner of the first ever series in 1982.
C2: Dixie Baird, finalist way back in 1983.
DC: Alison Heard and Sir Bernard Ingham.
CV: Carol Vorderman.
OT: Other words or solutions.

Yeah, that is one of the 2 specials. I have seen the other one mainly because it was recorded on the same day as my special.

I hope you can remember every detail of it and post a recap.

It's kinda cool that we could eventually reach the point of having more recaps than episodes.

Unfortunately my memory of it is virtually non-existent. I think the conundrum was relevant, because it was the same one used int he original match between the 2 contestants, it being a repeated final. Although, which one I don't know, because there would obviously have been 2 in the original final.

The only memory of the game I have is while I was watching it in the green room. Everyone else who was recording that day was int he green room, so there was Scott Mearns, Natascha Kearsey, my opponent, Lucy Guile, Chris Wills and Julian Fell amongst others.

I remember offering a reasonable word in one of hte rounds and then Julian added 2 letters onto it, and I said something like "Oooooh, smarty pants", followed by a bit of laughter from all within.

But that was a very enjoyable day, and being able to be in the audience for that Fell v Wills match is still one of my greatest memories. :D

Good game from Joyce considering she was probably 96 at the time.

Apparently quite a few masters games were never broadcast either or Allen Horn against Joy Hill in series 36. Or indeed any game involving Harry Peters.

Shouldn't that be - 3 - 1 :?:

Also it can obviously be done by ((9 + 4) x 50) - ((3 - 1) x 8), so the max is 128.

That equals 618 James. 3-1 you clearly mean. Standards are slipping.

Indeed, I blame it on Apterous being unavailable all yesterday, so my recap output was 0. :(

Surely PILFERS was valid in round 11.

We're both angry and called Mark/c, so it wasn't a very good disguise. Surname's basically the same as well. I was hoping to go the ol' hiding-in-plain-sight route but you've rumbled me.
