Return of the Awesome Dudes

Any recaps from older series should be posted here. This forum is unlikely to contain spoilers, but recaps may contain "forward references" if they are written much later, so approach with caution.

If you go to the start of this thread, you'll find your answer there.

Just say which you want to do, and put it down here.

I would start at Series 39, since 41 and up are more or less all done, and I'm more or less finishing off 40.

Or start Series 38, to make sure you don't collide with anyone. :D

I'll do Robert Muir 55 -32 Arthur Barrow (Series 39) to start with, might well do more if I like it. :D

Please leave feedback!

I think you'll find that Rhys has already booked that one, Joseph.

The earliest Series 39 that is unbooked is Clive Freedman 42-48 Jackie Anderson.

So, probably best that you start there.

James, I'll be quite happy if you deal with the week I booked but haven't done yet (15-19 March 1999). Not that I don't enjoy it or think it's worthwhile - quite the opposite. I think the expression is "needing to spend more time with my family". The main thing is that I've found out what's involved in historical recapping and I'll come back when I feel able.

One question though: apart from the two obvious places (the forum entry linked from the database and the wiki page), is the data entered into the recapper stored anywhere else? From the odd comment here and there I feel it must be.

If you're talking about the Wiki text, that is stored here: http://www.apterous.org/cdb/wikicap.php

I don't think the recap text is stored anywhere.

I went through the old scans and noticed that some of the episodes in Series 30 are audio only and don't have the conundrum scrambles. I'd like to book the last three weeks of Series 30 (11-29 September 1995), mainly as an excuse to test out my new conundrum convention on the wiki. It may seem a bit counter-intuitive, but really, it's no less so than a few other conventions we have (e.g., putting asterisks after words not mentioned by DC), and it helps people who want to play along with old episodes.

Incidentally, what's the first series for which you have written recaps? I heard it was sometime in 1990.

BTW, thanks for adding me to CDB.
I'm not dead yet. In a rut right now because of stress from work. I'll be back later in S89. I also plan to bring back the Mastergram - if I can find a way to run a timer or clock through pure MediaWiki without having to upload to Vimeo every time.

If you mean how far back do I have handwritten notes, there are some as far back as Series 2, so no slacking at the back.

Since Series 24 was put up today, I'm going to do a one-shot recap for Monday 6 July, an episode that is notable for two reasons.

Next up, the first 20 of Series 38. That's January 19 - February 13 1998.

Luckily, after this one, the other series should be brought up much faster, as all the other series are just 3 months long. 8-)

So was the next one I was going to do.

Oh well, next up then will be March 17 - April 17. 24 episodes worth. :D

I'll mix it up a bit and take all the ones still to be done from CoCV. That's six episodes. I suppose it would feel good to finish a series off!

Back to regularity then, I'll take Prelims 36-45 of Series 29. Not being rude or anything, but Series 29, and CoCs V and VI have excess entries to be deleted.

Actually, it was only 119 (no BASILECTS in those days, I'm afraid). It's now been added, although Charlie will need to remove the previous entry at some point.

Lifted from a Series 25 recap (as it might not get spotted there):
Johnny Canuck wrote:

According to the wiki, it's Ray Johnstone. Just noticed because he had the highest score of the series.
For the benefit of any historical recappers: It's worth noting for the record that once we get into regular audio recap territory (lots of the pre-1991 stuff, basically), it's worth checking the wiki for spellings rather than just relying on the notes as I often only discovered the correct spelling several appearances down the line (a good example of this is where I was spelling Gino Corr with an 'e' for several editions before discovering it was wrong).

Bit out of the loop with this now but if we get these two filled in:-

S42. Wed 1-Mar-00 Andy Brown 39 - 56 Russell Gaines
S36. Wed 9-Jul-97 Joy Hill 42 - 22 Allen Horn

then we'll have a complete run back to 27 June 1997, which would be pretty cool.

I believe Rhys did the wiki, but forgot to do the recap on here, so maybe you might want to ask him about that.

This episode, as I mentioned in the episode before that, was never actually broadcast, because Mr. Horn was revealed to be a convicted child molester.

So, I'm not sure what you want me to do with that one.... :?

That's fine, I'll just link to the wiki version.

 Maybe just put a placeholder, with the normal header and then a note about why it was never broadcast.

Awesome! (Well, not awesome, but you know what I mean). You will be shocked at how many paedophiles come from Bridlington. Seriously. Bridlington secondary school is "often" in the papers exposing teachers as paedos. Amazing stuff.
