Return of the Awesome Dudes

Any recaps from older series should be posted here. This forum is unlikely to contain spoilers, but recaps may contain "forward references" if they are written much later, so approach with caution.

I have 1 more recap to do in Series 28. After that, I'm going to take the plunge and go ahead with Series 33. I'll start with COC8 and Groups F and G of the Supreme Championship because they seem to be the least complete.

Mon 30-Sep-96 Alan Sinclair 32 - 60 Chris Rogers
Tue 1-Oct-96 David Acton 61 - 13 Dennis Fearon
Wed 2-Oct-96 Chris Colsmann 40 - 59 Kenneth Michie
Thu 3-Oct-96 Darren Shacklady 45 - 34 Satbir Gupta
Fri 4-Oct-96 Chris Rogers 47 - 41 David Acton
Mon 7-Oct-96 Kenneth Michie 46 - 40 Darren Shacklady
(Tue 8-Oct-96 already done)

Mon 25-Nov-96 Hilary Hopper 56 - 23 Anthony Butcher
Tue 26-Nov-96 Janet McRae 38 - 62 Damian Eadie
Wed 27-Nov-96 Ash Haji 58 - 65 Julian Hough
Thu 28-Nov-96 Hilary Hopper 59 - 39 Wayne Summers
Fri 29-Nov-96 Julian Hough 46 - 52 Damian Eadie
Mon 2-Dec-96 Hilary Hopper 59 - 40 Damian Eadie
Tue 3-Dec-96 Tim Morrissey 60 - 51 Nita Marr
Wed 4-Dec-96 Verity Joubert 35 - 43 Kevin Nelson
Thu 5-Dec-96 Gareth Williams 59 - 55 Wayne Kelly
Fri 6-Dec-96 Tony Vick 63 - 30 Robert Teuton
Mon 9-Dec-96 Tim Morrissey 57 - 41 Kevin Nelson
Tue 10-Dec-96 Gareth Williams 41 - 51 Tony Vick
(Wed 11-Dec-96 already done)

Also, I haven't been added to the list of available recappers on the Submit Recap page, if somebody would kindly take care of that. Thanks.
Johnny
I'm not dead yet. In a rut right now because of stress from work. I'll be back later in S89. I also plan to bring back the Mastergram - if I can find a way to run a timer or clock through pure MediaWiki without having to upload to Vimeo every time.

Any chance that this project could check the programme for 12th October 2004 (series 52)?

The recap and the wiki give final score as 70-59. Mike Brown's Countdown page gives the final score as 64-60, and my own notes of this programme also give final score as 64-60.

Indeed, looking at the history of that programme's recap on the wiki it has switched between 64-60 and 70-59 three times.

The scans only go up to Series 49, Howard. Unless Mike has got another secret stash hidden somewhere.

EDIT: Series 50 has just appeared on the quiet.

I'm hoping to scan all my notes eventually, although post-Series 49 it's mainly for personal backup reasons rather than anything else. Having said that, those may come in useful for cross-checking things like the one mentioned above from time to time. On which subject, I will check out October 12th '04 this evening - I sense this may have been discussed here or somewhere similar before!

So... it would appear the problem lies in round 11. The recap and wiki have C2 offering CANARY, which scores him either 5 or 6 points (depending on which version you look at), whereas the actual offering was ARTISANS for 7. Everything else appears to be in order. I will now leave it to one of you fine people to amend accordingly!

I'd like to help with this brilliant project, so I'd better find out how the recapper works.

I intend to start by completing the first week of S40 (2 episodes were done by James ages ago, following uploads to YouTube at a guess):

28/12/98
29/12/98
1/1/99

Edit: Actually I'd like to extend that to include the following week (4-8/1/99) because I've just noticed it includes a highly significant date (for me, not Countdown).

Thanks Charlie. I'd seen the password but I don't think I'd quite twigged that there was a need to be added to a list. I have created an account in the Wiki.

OK, I've done 28/12/98. Like a moron I created 2 phantom entries in the database before I realised what I should be doing - sorry! I presume someone can clear the empty ones out and leave the correct one - at least I hope it's correct.

I think I may already have been in the list of recappers because I did a few in the very early days - Stuart Earl's first game was one IIRC.

Edit: I've just read the bit on submitting recaps to the Countdown Database, i.e. don't! Er...sorry again.

Just to be clear, for anyone else new to this:

You do need to submit to CDB, this creates duplicate entries and eventually the old ones get deleted automatically.
You don't need to submit to the wiki, that gets handled automatically. (Actually I think Howard does it, but I count him as automatic.)

Before finishing off Series 41, I'll take the 8 Celebrity editions of the show just for a little filler before CoLeiii.

Can someone do that Recap in Series 41 which I booked? Chrome doesn't want to load Series 41 at the moment.

However, as it's half term (Yahoo!) I should probably take something, so I'll take some of Series 39.

Mon 29-Jun-98 Gillian Galek 40 - 30 Beverley Scott
Tue 30-Jun-98 Gillian Galek 42 - 55 Robert Muir
Wed 1-Jul-98 Robert Muir 52 - 51 Richard Frost
Thu 2-Jul-98 Robert Muir 55 - 32 Arthur Barrow
Fri 3-Jul-98 Robert Muir 42 - 52 Clive Freedman

I assume that I have to submit under Robert Baxter  .

I started series 40 because you were surging towards the end of 41; I knew I'd be slow to begin with and didn't want to delay its completion. By all means pick up series 40 at 11/1/1999.

The older ones take slightly longer, as they're not in such a good state for feeding into the copier, etc., so I've been doing some more recent ones first. I appreciate they're already recapped, but surely everyone has plenty to go at for the time being? :)

Also the online recaps in those days were not reviewed and corrected in anywhere near the detail they are now, so it's really useful to be able to cross-check them with your paper notes. Keep at it, I say.

Well, if the boss say so, then who am I to argue? ;)

The older ones take slightly longer, as they're not in such a good state for feeding into the copier, etc., so I've been doing some more recent ones first. I appreciate they're already recapped, but surely everyone has plenty to go at for the time being? :)

I remember one particular recap by a certain three-lettered person where virtually every single round contained an error and by round 9 it had become completely divorced from reality. If only in those days we'd had Robbo and the writer...

Didn't mean to be telling you what to do, I'm just defending your current decision.

All done. :D

Since everyone seems to be going all over the place, I'll take all of CoC IX, then I'll see which part of which series I want next. 8-)
CoC IX all done.

I'll carry on from where Clive left off with Series 40.

I'll take the next 20 episodes, which is 11 January - 5 February 1999.

Great work James.

Is anyone filling in the previous blanks? The 95%-complete series are bothering me.

I found that one of the missing ones had been recapped already by Robert, guess he didn't submit it to the database. Submitted it for him.

But yeah I'll hopefully get on with the rest of them starting tonight.

I've had a few days ill with flu and then grumbling kidney stones. I can recommend the latter to anyone who arrives at the studio to find they're booked to play someone like Eoin or Jack.

I'll take 8 March - 19 March 1999 (2 weeks) and try to finish before James completes the rest of the series.

Done.

Since Clive has taken the next 10 from Series 40, I'll take the next 20 after those 10.

So, that's 22 March - 16 April 1999.

If anyone has an odd one spare, I wouldn't mind giving a recap ago. However, it is likely to be of rather low quality. :(

17 May - 11 June 1999 for me next. That's another 20.

If you want a go, Joseph. Just help yourself. There's plenty spare. Think of it as a DIY shop.

That's stealing, James. Even if B&Q don't notice.
