I think STROBILAE was absent from the dictionary of the time, although I'm not certain.

R1: tiendas is not in COD9, pandits is not listed,
R2: vaquero is not listed
R3: acarines is not listed
R6: medaka is not listed
R7: retablo is mentioned as the root of retable, but is not an allowable word in its own right. strobili is listed as the plural of both strobila and strobilus, so strobilae is not allowable.

Oh, and good stuff on the recaps. My replies are for historical accuracy, not as a criticism at all.

These recaps are taken from bits of paper I found in some drawers at home, all I've done is put the letters/numbers selections and conundrums and the contestants' offerings in and Countmax did the rest.I'm far too bone idle to bother with things like working out the max scores or checking the validity of words ;) (although I don't have a COD9 anyway, just the ODE2).

What do you mean RETABLO isn't allowed?

I mean, er, it is not allowed. Or at least wasn't as it's not in bold in COD9

Gary meant root as in etymology, rather than base form.
