Countdown recap for Tuesday 14 May 2013.

Another Tuesday, another Worsley Recap :) and another last show of the week thanks to some stupid horse racing. :( Anyway, Nick reveals that this week is "Walk to Work Week". Who makes all this sloblock up?

C2: Challenger Lynne Banks. A housewife from Colchester, she also sings in a ladies' barber shop. She has two son and three grandchildren.
DC: Susie Dent and Janet Street-Porter.
RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.

Enjoy the show.

Round 1: R A C O J A T E G

Joe: COATER X
Lynne: RECOAT (6)
DC: GRACE (5) TOERAG (6)
OT: CARTAGE (7)
Score: 0–6 (max 7)

Joe falls into the very common COATER^ trap but Lynne turns the ER around and puts it on the other end to form an allowable word and take the lead. No one gets the slightly odd darrenic seven, which means what it sounds like.

Round 2: T D L E I S A C B

Joe: DIALECTS (8)
Lynne: DISABLE (7)
DC: CITADELS (8)
OT: BASILECT (8)
Score: 8–6 (max 15)

The champ hits straight back with a fine eight to snatch the lead.

Round 3: 50, 75, 4, 2, 9, 10. Target: 547.

Joe: 547. (50 + 4) x 10 + 9 - 2 (10)
Lynne: 546.
Score: 18–6 (max 25)

Joe comes up with a solid solution to extend his lead into double figures.

Teatime teaser: SHOTRANG -> STAGHORN

Round 4: N G S O E D E O R

Joe: RODEOS (6)
Lynne: SOONER (6)
DC: GENDERS (7) DRONGOES (8)
Score: 24–12 (max 33)

Just sixes for the contestants but there are a few sevens available and one eight. DRONGO can be pluralised by adding either S or ES, in this case, the latter. It is a songbird found in places such as Africa, Asia and Australia with glossy black plumage.

Round 5: V A M E P I T O S

Joe: MOTIVES (7)
Lynne: MOTIVES (7)
DC: SPITE (5) VAMPIEST (8)
Score: 31–19 (max 41)

DC shine with another darren.

Round 6: 25, 3, 8, 10, 4, 5. Target: 401.

Joe: 401. 8 x 5 x 10 + 4 - 3 (10)
Lynne: 400.
Score: 41–19 (max 51)

This may be a one large numbers game but Joe demonstrates his six small prowess by solving it without using the 25. Lynne is once again one out.

Janet expresses her opinions on how lonely people should sort it out themselves.

Round 7: P E T A N E S A F

Joe: FASTEN (6)
Lynne: PASTE (5)
DC: NEPETAS (7)
OT: PEASANT (7) PENATES (7)
Score: 47–19 (max 58)

Joe goes further in front but DC pull out an old favourite.

Round 8: L S R I E O F H I

Joe: FOILERS X
Lynne: FISHIER (7)
DC: FISHER (6) REFISH X
OT: OILFISH (7)
Score: 47–26 (max 65)

Lynne still has a mountain to climb but she has a glimmer of hope now. Joe falls into the FOILERS^ trap, which is also quite common.

Round 9: 100, 25, 1, 10, 8, 8. Target: 276.

Joe: 276. (25 + 1) x 10 + 8 + 8 (10)
Lynne: 270.
Score: 57–26 (max 75)

The faint hope for Lynne may have just about evaporated now as she's six out on this numbers while Joe is once again spot on.

Teatime teaser: DOMESUNK -> UNSMOKED

Round 10: N T L E U I B D M

Joe: BLUNTED (7)
Lynne: DILUTE (6)
DC: TUMBLED (7)
OT: BITUMEN (7) DILUENT (7) MINUTED (7)
Score: 64–26 (max 82)

Another winner for Joe.

Round 11: T E S I N E Y E N

Joe: INTENSE (7)
Lynne: TEENIES X
OT: SYENITE (7) TENNIES (7)
Score: 71–26 (max 89)

Now it's Lynne's turn to have a word disallowed as the plausible enough TEENIES^ is found not to be in. I knew instantly that it wasn't in as I remember having it disallowed in an apterous duel a few weeks ago and had I not risked it, I would have won it. Anyway, back to the important stuff.

OoW: Susie explains the origins of the term "plug", like when a celebrity plugs their new books for example.

Round 12: R Q R O U O D P E

Joe: POURED (6)
Lynne: PROUDER (7)
DC: DROOP (5)
Score: 71–33 (max 96)

Lynne will be a bit PROUDER of her performance today as she spots the darren and wins the round.

Round 13: N U M A D O S R E

Joe: SERMON (6)
Lynne: MOANERS (7)
DC: MAUNDERS (8)
OT: ENAMOURS (8) NEUROMAS (8) RANSOMED (8) SURNAMED (8)
Score: 71–40 (max 104)

She beats Joe with another seven but it's not enough to unseat him. DC get one of the several eights available.

Round 14: 75, 8, 1, 2, 6, 7. Target: 182.

Joe: 182. (75 + 8 + 7 + 1) x 2 (10)
Lynne: -
Score: 81–40 (max 114)

Another perfect numbers game for Joe and a blank by Lynne means that Joe has won the numbers games 40-0 today. I bet that hasn't happened before in a game with four numbers rounds, perhaps Graeme could check that if he's reading this? ;)

Round 15: O N E O F T R A N

Joe buzzes on 5.75 seconds to say AFTERNOON which is correct.
Final Score: 91–40 (max 124)

Joe complete's a good AFTERNOON's work by solving the conundrum to surpass his score from yesterday. This was a very solid performance by the champion, particularly on the numbers. Lynne unfortunately couldn't build on her first round lead and will be going home without a teapot. This week is another truncated one so Graeme will be recapping Joe's third game on Monday as he continues his march towards a possible place in the finals. Speaking of the finals, they are being recorded today and tomorrow, so good luck to all involved! Next week also sees the show return to its 3:10 slot, which is a relief to all of us. See you next week! :D :D

"A housewife from Colchester, she also sings in a ladies' barber shop. "

What - she actually sings in the shop? :)
