Round 1: M F S E I A T R U

C1: MURIATES (8)
C2: FIRMEST (7)
DC: MATURES (7) FUSTIER (7)
Score: 8–0 (max 8)

A super impressive start by Sol V (as he likes to be known on Apterous), with a super impressive 8. Super impressive I must say. :P

Round 2: H S A M O D E S W

C1: WASHES (6)
C2: SHADOWS (7)
DC: MOSHED (6) MEADOWS (7) SMASHED (7)
OT: SWASHED (7)
Score: 8–7 (max 15)

But Cerianne gets into the game immediately, peeping out of the SHADOWS, so to speak. :)

Round 3: G D S A E I L T U

C1: LIGATED (7)
C2: LUSTED (6)
DC: GAUDIEST (8)
Score: 15–7 (max 23)

But Sohail quickly negates it with a good 7 of his own. A nice darrenic 8 is spotted by DC too. 8-)

Round 4: F M E T I D O G S

C1: MIDGETS (7)
C2: FIDGETS (7)
DC: EGOTISM (7)
OT: FOISTED (7) FOMITES (7) MODISTE (7)
Score: 22–14 (max 30)

Seven heaven for all. :D

A FOMITE is any agent, as clothing or bedding, that is capable of absorbing and transmitting the infecting organism of a disease.

Round 5: 100, 9, 3, 4, 1, 1. Target: 236.

C1: 236. ((3 - 1) x 100) + (9 x 4) (10)
C2: 236. ((3 - 1) x 100) + (9 x 4) (10)
Score: 32–24 (max 40)

Nice and simple once you remember that 9 x 4 equals 36. :geek:

"The Zenon" does an amazing trick with his own special deck of playing cards, revealing the answer to "the crime" by using a wire and a lighter to find the "criminal card". 8-)

Teatime teaser: AORTAGET -> AEGROTAT

Round 6: Q L A T E S A N C

C1: LANCETS (7)
C2: LANCETS (7)
DC: SEALANT (7)
Me: ANALECTS (8) 8-)
Score: 39–31 (max 48)

My turn to go darrenic, but there are some pretty decent finds by the contestants today. 8-)

ANALECTS are selected passages from the writings of an author or of different authors.

Round 7: P S M E I E W N T

C1: TIMES (5)
C2: TWINES (6)
DC: PIEMEN (6) EMPTIES (7)
OT: PEEWITS (7) SEPTIME (7)
Score: 39–37 (max 55)

Cerianne is reeling in Sohail with her TWINES, as DC visit the PIEMEN with their EMPTIES. :P

In fencing, SEPTIME is the seventh of eight defensive positions.

Round 8: R B I C U P O R E

C1: PROCURE (7)
C2: POURER (6)
DC: CROUPIER (8)
Score: 46–37 (max 63)

But, it seems that once you claw back on Sohail, he gets back at you immediately. While "The Zenon" uses his gambling know-how to get the impressively darrenic 8. 8-)

Round 9: D G M I A O N Y I

C1: -
C2: DOMAIN (6)
DC: DOGMA (5) IMAGO (5)
OT: AIDING (6) AIMING (6) DAIMIO (6) DAIMON (6) DAIMYO (6) DOGMAN (6) DOMING (6) DYNAMO (6) GANOID (6) INDIGO (6) MAYING (6) YOGINI (6)
Score: 46–43 (max 69)

A baker's dozen of half a dozen offerings, but Sohail's mind takes a bit of a delayed mind freeze before declaring zero............... :?

In Japan, a DAIMIO or DAIMYO is one of the great feudal lords who were vassals of the shogun.
In Australia, a DOGMAN is a person who directs the operation of a crane whilst riding on an object being lifted by it.
GANOID is an adjective meaning of or pertaining to the Ganoidei, a group of mostly extinct fishes characterized by hard, bony scales, the living species of which include the paddlefishes, sturgeons, and gars.
A YOGINI is a woman who practices yoga.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of the phrase, "to pull the wool over someone's eyes" and "to pull someone's leg".

Round 10: 50, 5, 4, 1, 1, 6. Target: 597.

C1: 597. ((5 + 1 + 6) x 50) - (4 - 1) (10)
C2: 596.
Score: 56–43 (max 79)

Sohail's lead goes into double figures for the first time today. Quite a surprising miss by Cerianne, considering the high quality finds so far today.

Teatime teaser: GASHBAND -> HANDBAGS

Round 11: P T H O A E R S N

C1: PRONATES (8)
C2: PANTHERS (8)
DC: PHAETONS (8) STANHOPE (8)
OT: OPERANTS (8) PHONATES (8) SATPHONE (8)
Score: 64–51 (max 87)

8's all round in this one. :D

Round 12: T L A N O T E G L

C1: TANGLE (6)
C2: LATENT (6)
DC: GALLEON (7) TANGELO (7)
OT: GLOTTAL (7)
Score: 70–57 (max 94)

That brilliant Countdown favourite, the TANGELO, makes a welcome appearance.

Round 13: N T J I E E L X Z

C1: EXILE (5)
C2: EXILE (5)
DC: EEJIT (5)
OT: LENITE (6)
Score: 75–62 (max 100)

J, X AND Z!!!!!!!!!! Crikey blimey!!!! :P   :o Probably not too surprising that there aren't too many options, bar the darrenic 6.

To LENITE is to undergo lenition; be pronounced with weakened articulation, as when the consonant sound p changes to b, b to v, or v to w.

Round 14: 100, 6, 3, 6, 4, 2. Target: 932.

C1: 932. ((6 + 3) x (100 + 4)) - (6 - 2) (10)
C2: 932. ((6 + 3) x 100) + ((6 + 2) x 4) (10)
Score: 85–72 (max 110)

So, no interesting numbers selection, just the 2 obvious methods gives Sohail half-octochampdom.

Round 15: D E P O R T E T C

C2 buzzes on 1.25 seconds to say PROTECTED which is correct.
Final Score: 85–82 (max 120)

But, it's Cerianne who has the last laugh with a super quick conundrum solve, meaning that she has cut the gap to 3, but there are no more rounds left, so she has to return to South Wales with just a goody bag in tow.

So, Sohail has now won 4 games, but he is definitely been given a tough ride in these last few games, but he just needs to hang on for 4 more games to make the finals and do it again within a few days. :P (Out of the frying pan, into the fire methinks. :P  )

I'll be back tomorrow to see if Sohail can make it to 5 wins.

So, till then, bye bye. ;) :) :D
