Enjoy the show.

Round 1: C T S A E I Y N E

C1: INCEST (6)
C2: SAINT (5)
DC: CINEASTE (8)
OT: CYSTEINE (8)
Score: 6–0 (max 8)

Rose gets something that you wouldn't expect from a SAINT. :P  A very good 8 there from DC too. 8-)

CYSTEINE is a crystalline amino acid, C3H7O2NS, a component of nearly all proteins, obtained by the reduction of cystine.

Round 2: D P B O O A M S U

C1: BOOMS (5)
C2: MOODS (5)
DC: oompas DUMBOS (6)
OT: APODOUS (7)
Score: 11–5 (max 15)

Not much joy with this selection, as you can tell by the MOODS on offer, but there was a cool 7 lurking there.

APODOUS (or APODAL) is a zoological adjective meaning having no distinct feet or footlike members.

Round 3: T Q G A O I S T U

C1: QUITS (5)
C2: TOAST (5)
DC: TOGAS (5) STOAT (5) AGOUTIS (7)
OT: TAUTOGS (7)
Score: 16–10 (max 22)

Again, a nasty bunch, but there a couple of chinks of shining light that were the two 7's.

A TAUTOG is a black food and game fish, Tautoga onitis, inhabiting waters along the North Atlantic coast of the United States.

Round 4: F T N E O E H K O

C1: TONE (4)
C2: FONT (4)
DC: KETONE (6)
Score: 20–14 (max 28)

And if the last ones weren't bad enough, an even worse one appears with just a darrenic 6 available.

Round 5: 50, 7, 10, 6, 1, 5. Target: 867.

C1: 867. (50 + 1) x (10 + 7) (10)
C2: 862.
Score: 30–14 (max 38)

Rose brings out her numbers brain to extend her lead further. 8-)

Jon gives some of his definitions from The Meaning Of Liff in the impressions of Brian Sewell, Andrew Marr, Les Dawson and even Nick :!:

Teatime teaser: CAMPDOOR -> MACROPOD

Round 6: N L P U E A M Z E

C1: AMPLE (5)
C2: MAPLE (5)
DC: LUMPEN (6) ENAMEL (6)
OT: EMPANEL (7) EMPLANE (7)
Score: 35–19 (max 45)

AMPLE comes out again after its double appearance Tia's octorun, but it's not a brilliant bunch yet again. :(

To EMPANEL (or IMPANEL) is to enter on a panel or list for jury duty.

Round 7: J D B O I E D L A

C1: BOILED (6)
C2: BOILED (6)
DC: BADDIE (6)
OT: BEDLOAD (7)
Score: 41–25 (max 52)

Anna gets a word longer than 5 for the first time today, with her BOILED 6. Another odd darrenic 7 is missed by all.

Round 8: T F D I E G S L A

C1: STIFLED (7)
C2: DIGEST (6)
DC: GADFLIES (8)
Score: 48–25 (max 60)

Rose gets another extension on her lead, as DC spot the darren for the first time today. :D

Round 9: S T R I E U H C A

C1: eucharist
C2: RICHEST (7)
DC: CHARIEST (8)
OT: HAIRCUTS (8) SURICATE (8) THERIACS (8) THESAURI (8)
Score: 48–32 (max 68)

WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!! With all the rubbish that has come out of the boxes, to hear the word "NINE" come out of Rose's mouth, you think that this can be something magical. The audience show immense shock twice, and even Susie thinks it's in, but unfortunately it's CAPITALISED!!!! :o :( Definitely a worthy try though.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of some words that have made the online dictionary, "ridic", "OH (other half)", "photobomb", "soul patch" and "mwahahaha".

Round 10: 100, 75, 1, 8, 4, 5. Target: 218.

C1: 218. ((75 - 1) x (8 - 5)) - 4 (10)
C2: -
Score: 58–32 (max 78)

But, Rose is not deterred and comes up with a good method to get her lead up to an alphabet's worth. :P :geek:

Teatime teaser: FARSTONE -> SEAFRONT

Round 11: P R W E A I C M E

C1: CAMPER (6)
C2: CAMPER (6)
DC: AMPERE (6)
OT: CAMPIER (7) EPIMERA (7)
Score: 64–38 (max 85)

A couple of CAMPERs on offer, but Rose and Anna could've been CAMPIER with their offerings.

In crustaceans, an EPIMERON (plural EPIMERA) is the part of the side of a somite external to the basal joint of each appendage.

Round 12: H R G N I A E R O

C1: HERRING (7)
C2: HEARING (7)
DC: HORNIER (7) RANGIER (7) GROANER (7)
OT: ANGRIER (7) EARRING (7) GRAINER (7) HOARIER (7) IGNORER (7) REARING (7) ROARING (7)
Score: 71–45 (max 92)

At last, we have a flat round with sevens aplenty. :D

Round 13: L S R V E I E O N

C1: VERSION (7)
C2: VERSION (7)
DC: INVERSE (7) NOVELISE (8) OVERLIES (8)
OT: EVERSION (8) RELIEVOS (8)
Score: 78–52 (max 100)

And Rose's VERSION of events means that she has wrapped up the game with 2 rounds to spare. ;) :) :D  8-)

An EVERSION is a turning or being turned outward or inside out.
A RELIEVO is the projection of a figure or part from the ground or plane on which it is formed, as in sculpture or similar work.

Round 14: 25, 50, 7, 6, 6, 3. Target: 603.

C1: 603. ((6 + 6) x 50) + 3 (10)
C2: 603. ((6 + 6) x 50) + 3 (10)
Score: 88–62 (max 110)

Anna gets her first points in the numbers game today, but this conundrum will be interesting in determining where Rose will go on the table at the moment............

Round 15: E V I L R E I G N

C2 buzzes on 25 seconds to say RELIEVING which is correct.
Final Score: 88–72 (max 120)

Well, that was probably one of the easier conundrums out of the 8 that she got, but it's Anna, not Rose who solves it, which means that Liam Shaw remains in the #2 spot on the leaderboard, meaning that Rose will have to make do with the #3 spot.

This also means that it's the first time in nearly 13 years that we've had back-to-back female octochamps in consecutive shows, since Lucy Roberts & Margaret Foster in Series 41 in 1999. 8-) :geek: :ugeek:

So, we now have FIVE OCTOCHAMPS already. Weirdly, only 6 other people have won games this series, and one of those won 7 (that was Grant obviously), so it's definitely the series to win big it seems. If we're not careful, we might have too many octochamps, which has never happened before. Is it within the realms of possibility, I wonder................. :?: :?: :?:

I'll be back tomorrow when 2 new contestants enter the fray. Will they be just as successful :?: :?: :?: :?

So, till then, bye bye. ;) :) :D
