Round 1: Q N F O E U D A C

C1: FOUND (5)
C2: CANOED (6)
DC: FONDUE (6)
OT: DEACON (6) FECUND (6)
Score: 0–6 (max 6)

Almost like round 2 from 2 days ago, but Chris only FOUND FOUND for 5, so Philippa goes downriver with her 6, as well as in the lead. :)

Round 2: S D O G E A P S I

C1: DISPOSE (7)
C2: ADIPOSE (7)
DC: GOSSIP (6) GOSSIPED (8)
Score: 7–13 (max 14)

DC GOSSIPED about their darrenic 8 while both the contestants strike a POSE (of sorts) with their 7's.

Round 3: T F R O A O M E R

C1: FOOTER (6)
C2: TREMOR (6)
DC: FORMER (6) ROOMER (6) REFORM (6) REFORMAT (8)
Score: 13–19 (max 22)

Quite a few 6's around, but DC decide to redo the rules, by getting another darrenic 8. 8-)

Round 4: S M N A I T E R G

C1: STREAMING (18)
C2: STREAMING (18)
DC: MASTERING (18)
OT: EMIGRANTS (18)
Score: 31–37 (max 40)

WAHOO!!!!!!!!!! 9's ALL ROUND!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) :) :D  8-)

Round 5: 50, 100, 75, 2, 8, 10. Target: 735.

C1: 735. (100 x 8) - 75 + 10 (10)
C2: 734.
Score: 41–37 (max 50)

Chris is clearly the 3 large master, as his secret weapon takes him into the lead. 8-)

Dave talks more about misunderstandings of language from his own personal experiences.

Teatime teaser: LOYALWAG -> GALLOWAY

Round 6: X R T I E M V A D

C1: VARIED (6)
C2: MIXER (5)
DC: READMIT (7) TIRADE (6)
Score: 47–37 (max 57)

And now his letters are coming good too, his lead goes into double figures now.

Round 7: H N R E U I K A M

C1: HUNKIER (7)
C2: MANKIER (7)
OT: RAMEKIN (7) RHENIUM (7)
Score: 54–44 (max 64)

Quite a few 7's, yet the contestants decide to go for the 2 at the opposite ends of the scale. :P

RHENIUM (Symbol: Re) is a rare metallic element of the manganese subgroup: used, because of its high melting point, in platinum-rhenium thermocouples.

Round 8: P N U A L E W I Z

C1: PLAIN (5)
C2: LEAP (4)
DC: ALPINE (6)
OT: INWALE (6) LUPINE (6) PINEAL (6)
Score: 59–44 (max 70)

And ALPINE makes another reappearance too, but it seems to have been blanked in the contestant's minds, as they only make a LEAP into the PLAIN. :P

in an open boat, an INWALE is a horizontal timber binding together the frames along the top strake.
PINEAL is an adjective meaning resembling a pine cone in shape.

Round 9: N T P O U E Y U R

C1: POETRY (6)
C2: POUTER (6)
DC: UPTURN (6) TOURNEY (7)
OT: ENTROPY (7)
Score: 65–50 (max 77)

A couple more 6's from the contestants, makes up for the lack of them yesterday I guess, but DC go one better again. :D

In statistical mechanics, an ENTROPY is a measure of the randomness of the microscopic constituents of a thermodynamic system.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "puppy love" and "moonstruck".

Round 10: 25, 7, 3, 5, 9, 10. Target: 344.

C1: 344. Mistake in working.
C2: 343. ((9 + 5) x 25) - 7 (7)
RR: 344. ((9 + 5) x 25) - (10 - 7 + 3) (10)
Score: 65–57 (max 87)

Oh dear, after Rachel completely misses Chris' phantom 2, he realises his method is rubbish, so Philippa gets back in the game.

Teatime teaser: MADPLANE -> NAPALMED

Round 11: S L V E I A N E S

C1: LEVIES (6)
C2: SNIVELS (7)
DC: VASELINES (18)
OT: ALIVENESS (18)
Score: 65–64 (max 105)

Another multiple 9 here, although the contestants don't get either of them, and Philippa has now sliced Chris' lead down to a single point..................

Round 12: L S A U N P O O T

C1: PLANTS (6)
C2: outplan
RR: PLATOONS (8)
Score: 71–64 (max 113)

If you go with outplan, why not go with outplans :?: But that's not the most shocking thing of that round, as Rachel gets the word that Chris got in round 12 yesterday :!: :!:  :o

Round 13: S G B A O O E W D

C1: BASED (5)
C2: WOOED (5)
DC: ABODES (6) ADOBES (6) BODEGAS (7)
OT: GOBDAWS (7)
Score: 76–69 (max 120)

The gap is still at a lucky 7, but who is the luckier one.............. :?:

A GOBDAW is Irish slang for a fool or idiot. :P

Round 14: 50, 5, 10, 7, 7, 9. Target: 475.

C1: 475. (50 / (7 - 5)) x (10 + 9) (10)
C2: 472.
Score: 86–69 (max 130)

I think that answers the question. Another very good numbers solve by Chris has wrapped the game up in his favour. 8-)

Round 15: S M O O T H A L E

No one buzzes. The answer was LOATHSOME.
Final Score: 86–69 (max 140)

No-one but our Rach gets the conundrum (she's getting very good at these, isn't she :?: 8-) )

So, a tougher proposition for Chris today, but he's managed to get through it, via a couple of wobbles. Hopefully, he can make it a hat-trick of wins tomorrow.

Thomas will be around then for that one.

I'll be back on Wednesday, for what could be Chris' 6th game. ;) :) :D

So, till then, have a great weekend, and see you soon. Be sure of it. 8-)
