It's Tom Cruise's 50th birthday today, so Nick tests Rachel and Tim's knowledge of his films. Naturally, they didn't do very well.
Enjoy the show.

Round 1: K S T C E A I W E

C1: WICKETS (7)
C2: WACKIEST (8)
DC: WICKETS (7) WEAKEST (7)
Score: 0–8 (max 8)

A strong start from Baljeet, as she finds the only available 8.

Round 2: T D C I U G M A E

C1: MIDGET (6)
C2: IMAGED (6)
DC: IMAGED (6)
OT: GAMETIC (7)
Score: 6–14 (max 15)

Carol is soon off the mark too, but this time everyone misses the darren.

Round 3: R F B I O A Y V E

C1: BRIEF (5)
C2: FORAY (5)
DC: VERIFY (6)
OT: FORBYE (6)
Score: 11–19 (max 21)

Two nicely linked words offered here :)
FORBYE is an archaic or Scottish term, meaning 'in addition'.

Round 4: S M R T O A N E R

C1: SMARTER (7)
C2: SMARTER (7)
DC: MOANERS (7) ROTAMERS (8)
OT: MONSTERA (8) REARMOST (8) STOREMAN (8)
Score: 18–26 (max 29)

The gap remains at eight points here, as Dictionary Corner find one of the available 8's.

Round 5: 100, 8, 7, 2, 7, 10. Target: 298.

C1: -
C2: 298. (10-7)*100-2 (10)
Score: 18–36 (max 39)

Oh dear, Carol has blobbed on an easy numbers, so Baljeet can extend her early advantage.

Tim gives us his usual barrage of gags, this time on the theme of auctions. He also shows us footage of him in a Tube Train simulator on Susie's pencam, a prize he recently won at a said auction. :D

Teatime teaser: SUITFLAT -> FLAUTIST

Round 6: S G N R O U C I T

C1: SCOURING (8)
C2: SOURCING (8)
DC: SCOUTING (8) COURTING (8) ROUSTING (8)
OT: COURSING (8) CRUSTING (8) RUCTIONS (8)
Score: 26–44 (max 47)

In my experience, flat 8's is a rare occurence, but it's happened here!

Round 7: H V S E O L I P O

C1: POLISH (6)
C2: SHOVEL (6)
DC: PLOSIVE (7)
Score: 32–50 (max 54)

Decent 6's from both contestants, but DC spot the impressive 7.
PLOSIVE is the term used to describe a consonant that is produced by stopping the airflow using the lips, teeth or palate. In English, the plosive consonants are B, D, G, K, P and T sounds. :D

Round 8: T P S I E N D A M

C1: PAINTED (7)
C2: STIPEND (7)
DC: MEDIANTS (8)
Score: 39–57 (max 62)

More good stuff from the Corner as they find the only 8.

Round 9: L S L T I O I N E

C1: SILENT (6)
C2: LENTILS (7)
OT: ELISION (7) ENTISOL (7) INSTILL (7) ISOLINE (7) LINIEST (7) LINTELS (7) LINTIES (7) LIONISE (7) OILIEST (7) ONLIEST (7) STOLLEN (7) TELLINS (7)
Score: 39–64 (max 69)

Baljeet is putting up a solid performance on debut here as she finds one of the many 7's.
An ISOLINE is a line on a map connecting points having equal incidence of a specified meteorological feature.
LINTELS are horizontal supports of timber, stone, concrete or steel across the top of a door or window.
TELLINS are marine bivalve molluscs which live buried in the sand siphoning detritus from the surface around its burrow.

Susie talks about the origin of the expression 'take the biscuit'.

Round 10: 75, 5, 6, 3, 10, 2. Target: 619.

C1: -
C2: 618. (10-2)*75+6*3 (7)
RR: 619. (75+3)*(6+2)-5 (10)
Score: 39–71 (max 79)

It's wishful thinking to think Carol is going to get back into this now...

Teatime teaser: NEEDKILN -> ENKINDLE

Round 11: J N D P D U O E R

C1: POUNDER (7)
C2: POUNDER (7)
DC: UPEND (5) POUNDED (7)
OT: REDOUND (7) ROUNDED (7) UNROPED (7)
Score: 46–78 (max 86)

Baljeet maintains her lead.

Round 12: N G D U O N A T O

C1: TANG (4)
C2: NOUGAT (6)
OT: GOONDA (6)
Score: 46–84 (max 92)

Another nice spot from Baljeet means Carol needs the perfect 38 from now to just tie.
A GOONDA, in Italy, is a hired 'thug'.

Round 13: R S W E A U R F E

C1: SURFER (6)
C2: WEARERS (7)
DC: SWEARER (7) REFUSER (7)
OT: ERASURE (7)
Score: 46–91 (max 99)

Baljeet seals the victory, as one of my favourite bands makes an outing! :D

Round 14: 50, 1, 3, 5, 10, 4. Target: 433.

C1: 436. (5+3)*50+(10-1)*4 (7)
C2: 440.
RR: 433. (50-3)*(5+4)+10 (10)
Score: 53–91 (max 109)

Carol finally breaks Baljeet's run of scoring in every round right at the end.

Round 15: D R E A D T H U G

C1 buzzes on 21 seconds to say HEARTHRUG which is incorrect.
C2 does not buzz.
The answer was DRAUGHTED.
Final Score: 53–91 (max 119)

A very decent debut from Baljeet then, and James will be recapping her second game tomorrow. :) A commendable effort from Carol too, who will be taking a teapot home with her.

Raw score: 76-96
Maxes: 2-7

I'll be back next Tuesday, by which time the final unrecapped episodes of Series 66 should also be complete. See you then! :D
