So, you're in for another Robinson Recap Triple Bill here.

Enjoy if you can. ;) :) :D

Countdown recap for Monday 28 November 2011.

C1: Champion Kirsten Thompson (1 win, 93 points.) A house music DJ turned catering assistant from Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

He did manage to get 200 people to hug him though. :P When he was younger, he said he wanted to be an astronaut or a vampire.
DC: Susie Dent and Robin Cousins.
RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.

Round 1: B P N A O C G A L

C1: GOAL (4)
C2: BACON (5)
DC: GALOP (5) CONGA (5) BANAL (5)
OT: BLANCO (6) CANOLA (6) PONGAL (6)
Score: 0–5 (max 6)

All the 6's are missed here, but while Kirsten scores a GOAL, Matt brings home the BACON. :P

A CANOLA is a variety of rapeseed that contains reduced levels of erucic acid, making its oil palatable for human consumption, and reduced levels of a toxic glucosin, making its meal desirable as a livestock feed.

Round 2: U O D P N E R S A

C1: PONDERS (7)
C2: -
DC: POUNDERS (8)
OT: OPERANDS (8) PADRONES (8)
Score: 7–5 (max 14)

Matt blanks out, while Kirsten PONDERS whether POUNDERS was in or not. It is, but she has the lead for now.

In mathematics, an OPERAND is a quantity upon which a mathematical operation is performed.

Round 3: M X R I E U C H O

C1: MIXER (5)
C2: CHROME (6)
DC: HEROIC (6)
OT: CERIUM (6) CHIMER (6) CORIUM (6) HOMIER (6) HUMERI (6)
Score: 7–11 (max 20)

Quite a few 6's here, but Matt's CHROME finish gives him the lead again.

CERIUM (Symbol: Ce) is a steel-gray, ductile metallic element of the rare-earth group found only in combination.
A CORIUM (or DERMIS) is the deep inner layer of the skin, beneath the epidermis, containing connective tissue, blood vessels, and fat.

Round 4: R E A B R Q I S T

C1: TARRIES (7)
C2: BAREST (6)
DC: ARBITERS (8)
OT: RAREBITS (8)
Score: 14–11 (max 28)

But the lead returns to Kirsten with her TARRIES.

Round 5: 75, 50, 4, 2, 7, 8. Target: 990.

C1: -
C2: -
RR: 990. ((75 + 50) x 8) - ((7 x 2) - 4) (10)
Score: 14–11 (max 38)

Complete blackout from both contestants here, as Rachel shows how it's done. 8-)

Robin recites some poems with an ice skating theme, which reveal that the National Skating Association's original HQ was what is now the London Palladium. 8-)

Teatime teaser: GNATBITE -> ABETTING

Round 6: D G N A E I P R O

C1: DRAPING (7)
C2: opening
DC: ORGANDIE (8)
Score: 21–11 (max 46)

An larger opening is found by Kirsten as Matt goes phantom, and DC go darrenic.

Round 7: S N W E O E T L R

C1: RELENTS (7)
C2: TOWERS (6)
DC: WRESTLE (7) SWELTER (7)
OT: ENTRESOL (8)
Score: 28–11 (max 54)

Kirsten has now initiated her A-game now, and Matt is feeling the full force, although ENTRESOL is missed by DC yet again.

Round 8: A S D O T J H A E

C1: HOSTED (6)
C2: HATES (5)
DC: DEATHS (6)
OT: HASTED (6) JATHAS (6) JEHADS (6) JOSHED (6)
Score: 34–11 (max 60)

Robin almost dropped the tone in the studio when he said DEATHS, but Kirsten is starting to get out of Matt's reach.

Round 9: F T I A I M P L E

C1: AMPLE (5)
C2: AMPLE (5)
DC: FLEAPIT (7) IMPALE (6)
OT: LIMEPIT (7)
Score: 39–16 (max 67)

Matt scores for the first time in 6 rounds, as both spot the obvious 5, while DC impress with a good 7.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of the cat related words, "catgut", "cat's nine lives", "cat-of-nine-tails" and the phrase, "no room to swing a cat".

Round 10: 75, 50, 25, 100, 9, 4. Target: 608.

C1: -
C2: 600. ((9 + 4) x 50) - (100 - 75) - 25 (5)
RR: 607/609. (7)
Me: 608. ((9 x 25) - 75 + (100 / 50)) x 4 (10) :D
Score: 39–21 (max 77)

Matt goes all over the place just for 5 points. 609 seemed pretty simple with ((100 + 50) x 4) + 9, but even Rachel can't solve this one. :o

Teatime teaser: CORRYDUO -> CORDUROY

Round 11: S T N S A E I O I

C1: NOISIEST (8)
C2: NASTIES (7)
OT: SANITISE (8)
Score: 47–21 (max 85)

Matt has a risky 7, but is trumped by Kirsten's DC beating 8. :D

Round 12: E O U Y M R A V S

C1: SAVOURY (7)
C2: ROAMS (5)
OT: VOYEURS (7)
Score: 54–21 (max 92)

Another SAVOURY taste in the mouth for Matt, but it'll taste very sweet for Kirsten, as the win is almost there for her.

Round 13: R G D E U N R O E

C1: ROUNDER (7)
C2: GROUND (6)
DC: GROUNDER (8)
Score: 61–21 (max 100)

Oooooooooooooooh, a fusion of the words would have given the darren to the contestants, but instead, Kirsten's ROUNDER rounds up the win.

Round 14: 25, 1, 3, 2, 9, 6. Target: 147.

C1: 147. (25 x 6) - 3 (10)
C2: 147. (25 x 6) - 3 (10)
Score: 71–31 (max 110)

A nice, simple numbers spares Matt the embarrassment of appearing on the low scorers page, but Kirsten has been a different class in the third half, and revived the form that gave her that impressive win on Friday.

Round 15: C O R N I G U N K

C1 buzzes on 4.75 seconds to say UNCORKING which is correct.
Final Score: 81–31 (max 120)

And that's another 10 points in the kitty, and Kirsten wins after scoring more than half her points in the 3rd half of today's show.

Matt's early promise never took off and instead, he just faded away, and Kirsten has now put herself in the frame to mount a very late charge to get a place in the finals.

Will she make it a hat-trick of wins tomorrow, or will her downfall seal everyone's place at this early checkpoint :?:

I'll be back on Wednesday for my next recap of the week, so till then, bye bye. :D
