"A man who could follow the wrong path with more determination than anyone I have ever met." (citation)

Back in July 2006, these were some of the words David chose to identify himself on the old c4countdown group. We knew little about him then.

By October 2007, we knew a lot more about him, through his many further contributions to the group, and we knew how he did in his audition (damn well, as it turned out - citation). It was pretty clear by then that when he went to Leeds for the filming, he was going to be a force to be reckoned with, unless he froze in front of the cameras.

That didn't happen.

David's won seven games so far, amassing 763 points, with maximums on the letters and numbers games coming out of his arse. This is the last game that David will play before returning for the finals in June (even in the extremely unlikely event that he loses today, he'll almost certainly be back).

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the man, the myth, the music: Mr. Daniel O'Donnell:

Max: 10 (120)
Score: 117 - 48

It was never in doubt, really, and David caps off his very impressive run with a high score and - with just three points dropped over the entire game - his best performance yet. Poor Steve looked a bit shell-shocked from about three rounds in, and did creditably not to fall apart completely. Better still will no doubt come in the finals and notwithstanding Michael MacDonald-Cooper's good run earlier on in the series, David's certainly the man to beat when it all kicks off later on in the year.

"A man who could follow the wrong path with more determination than anyone I have ever met." That doesn't really ring true now, certainly not looking at the last eight games! Well done, mate.

Well, it's not every day that an 880-point octochamp comes along, so I thought it deserved a bit of an effort.

A great recap deserving of a great Octochamp. The stats prove that you are one of the best and you beat me comfortably today - I couldn't better you in any round - outstanding stuff, particularly INFRARED and POTHEEN.

Have a life between now and the finals and bask in the glory!! Good luck for the finals which I guess will be some time in the middle of May - you are the man to beat. I hope someone comes along between now and then that could post a serious challenge. Michael was good, but not in your league sir.
