Round 11: E O A P N P T O H

C1: ETALONS (7)
C2: ATONES (6)
DC: TANNOYS (7)
Other: SYNTONE (7)
Shurely shome mishtake, the letters don't match up to the words at all.
Round 12: Z A O E A S C S R

C1: ROSACES (7)
C2: ACROSS (6)
DC: COURSE (6)
Must've been COARSE or there's a letter wrong in the selection.

If only there were some kind of online tool that detected these sort of errors automatically!

My mistake. I thought you were saying that the contestant's word must have been COARSE.

Yes I've been doing a bit of research looking at old recaps recently, and I've noticed this happens quite a lot with Dave C - I'm beginning to think it's deliberate, to keep us all on our toes! Is it, Dave?

I can go off people Mr Fell. I don't think slip ups of that nature are that common an occurance. Come to Bristol, you'll have no difficulty recognising me for sure, I'll be the guy beating you to death with a rather tired looking copy of the dictionary. Haha.

My attention was temporarily diverted when I found this tiny little thing that turned out to be my self esteem. I don't see it at the moment but it'll probably report back with a much better understanding of quantum mechanics than it had before.

I tend to do the reviews as an edit of a text file, which is then saved and pasted in, so the very occasional wrong set of letters is most likely from the review of the week before. A little distracted this week as I composed it in the company of Mr Buttons, aged 5. So named because any buttons of any description just have to be pressed at every opportunity.... perhaps he'd like to do next weeks review.

Capacity to edit is an excellent convenience.. ahem.. especially this time around, it doesn't look like it allows pre-formatted text via the "pre" tag or a switch to a fixed width font for lining up purposes, which is less convenient, unless we should write our reviews in paragraphs just for jolly.

Now that I've edited the first post, everything after it makes no sense. Suits me. What's all this about mistakes, it looks fine to me. Haha.

All right all right... my post wasn't that offensive Dave, was it? I thought it was quite light-hearted, obviously not... I didn't mean it to sound like I was having a go at you, so, sorry if it did. You do a great job with the recaps; another thing I noticed in doing my research is that you've often pointed up occasions where a contestant seems to have gotten away with dodgy dealings a la Jeffrey Hansford, or been helped overmuch by Carol in completing a numbers game solution and suchlike... so I think you should be appointed the Countdown Moral Guardian!

Yo Julian,

I was jestering too comrade, as always. Hence the "haha". There isn't a "mock sulk" emoticon.

My ego has returned from the quantum world feeling positive about having lost an electron.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the vast majority of what we communicate is built around tone of voice, facial expression, wider body language cues such as arm movements, proximity etc, etc. Alas such things are lost when we are down to text alone.

I maintain that it is not possible for one person to offend another, (red rag to a Corby) so we can all stay relaxed, light-hearted and unobvious.

Everyone's recaps contain the occasional error (especially mine), but it seems bizarre that simple errors (like the wrong selection) persist when there are tools around specifically designed to prevent them. I've said before that I'll add features to the recap writer if something is particularly desired, but you do have to tell me what.
