Welcome to the penultimate heat game of the Champion of Champions XIII 3 week extravaganza. Today's game sees Peter Davies face master of our c4c universe Charlie Reams. Peter saw off Michael Macdonald-Cooper in an intense series 58 QF before losing to fellow forumite Rich Priest in the semis. He made some great spots including FOREPAW, EXORDIA and POIGNANT and to top it all off, after solving only 1 conundrum out of 7 in his heats, managed to solve GLYCERINE after one second in his final game.

We all know who Charlie is, but for those newbies on the forum or if per chance you've been living in a cave on Mars for the past few months he's a computer science whizz from Cambridge who narrowly lost to Junaid Mubeen in the Series 59 final. He also had the honour of picking Carol's last numbers and solving the last conundrum of the DesO and Carol era. He also enjoys eating cheese.

Charlie is definitely the overdog in this one as I shall indicate with my flawless stream of logic:
Charlie beat Kai, Kai beat Rich, Rich beat Peter, ergo Charlie>>>Peter, but anything could happen. PARQUETRY!

Ahem... :?

And now a brief interlude before our main feature:

Score: 66–85 (max 117)

Amazing conundrum spot by Peter (although its validity is under investigation by the c4c PO-LICE) brings his total to just 3 conundra out of 9! I was sat next to him and his wife in the audience for the subsequent 3 games and just have to echo the sentiments of Charlie and others about what a nice guy he is.
Well done to Charlie who goes on to play Junaid in a grudge match of their series 59 final. Tomorrow brings us the last CoC heat game, when we'll find out who claims the 8th and final spot in the CoC quarter finals.

Nice recap Dinos. :)

Interesting to see that the max was once again in the range 112-119*. However, Charlie managed to beat the C2 jinx, which had seen all previous C2 players in COC13 lose their games.

* though strictly, this game had a max less than 112, as round 15 didn't have a solution. :)

Not sure how the points thing works but this appears that Charlie is averaging 108.5 points a game and Peter is averaging a mighty 113.6 points a game. Surely this is not right?

You forgot to include the losses in the denominator.

BTW, good work Dinos, I appreciate the extra effort in the intros.

Ah yes, of course. And yeah, I enjoyed reading that blurb too, a nice review. Thankyou.

Cheers guys. I only get to do one CoC recap so thought I'd make this one a bit spesh.

Oh and I forgot to include Susie's OoW: for anyone who's interested she talked about the knork, a piece of cutlery comprising the sharpness of a knife and prongs of a fork, which has become popular in our TV dinner culture. After which I think they edited out a joke by Jeff

"We dont use knorks in our house. We have something called fingers." or something like that.

Ther is also a similar piece of cutlery very popular in the 60's calles a splade which combines a spoon fork and a bit of an excuse for a blade usefull for cake and currys as a right hand fork user it suits well anyone heard of these.

A nice Australian lady did warn her:

Maria Zijlstra: Do you know the other meaning of 'norks'?

Susie Dent: Oh dear. No, I dread to think...is it rude?

Maria Zijlstra: Breasts.

Susie Dent: Oh really, okay. Is that definitely Australian English?

Maria Zijlstra: Maybe it is an Australianism, then. 'She's got great norks...ha, ha, ha.'

Susie Dent: Well that's fantastic. Well I didn't mention that in the book. I should have done. If there's ever a reprint I'll put it in.

Maria Zijlstra: I don't think it has a k, though.

Susie Dent: Oh, okay, good. So I won't have people sniggering in the bookshops.

I have several of these things - definitely useful for curries & other ready-meals; I've always called them sporks. :geek:
