Round 1: R T L P E U I O E

Sam: PETIOLE (7)
Bernie: PEEL (4)
DC: REPTILE (7) PUERILE (7) PLOUTER (7)
OT: PLEURITE (8)
Score: 7–0 (max 8)

A very nice start for Sam, hopefully Bernie is just a bit rusty, as he starts with just a 4...

A PLEURITE is each of the lateral sections of the exoskeleton of an arthropod; a pleural sclerite.

Round 2: Y I O F W R A I D

Sam: FIORD (5)
Bernie: FRAY (4)
DC: DIARY (5) FAIRY (5) ROWDY (5)
OT: RAIOID (6)
Score: 12–0 (max 14)

Oh dear, this 4 rust isn't going away that quickly...., although Sam can only get 5, as he quite wisely didn't risk airify.

A RAIOID (or RAJOID) is a ray or skate, specifically one belonging to the superfamily Rajoidea or suborder Rajoidei.

Round 3: 75, 25, 100, 9, 1, 3. Target: 479.

Sam: 478. ((9 - 1) x 75) - 100 - 25 + 3 (7)
Bernie: 475.
RR: 478/480. (7)
OT: 480. (100 + 75 - 25 + 9 + 1) x 3 (7)
Score: 19–0 (max 21)

A nasty 3 large appears, and Sam gets perfection as 1 away is as good as it gets here....

Teatime teaser: TINYPLATE -> PATIENTLY

Round 4: T E M O Z C E N L

Sam: TELECON (7)
Bernie: CEMENT (6)
DC: TELECOM (7) CLEMENT (7) MOLTEN (6)
Score: 26–0 (max 28)

Ouch, Bernie missing the L for CLEMENT there, although Rach also mishears Sam's TELECON as TELECOM too...

Round 5: S D R V A U I E N

Sam: DENARIUS (8)
Bernie: VARIED (6)
DC: INVADE (6) INVADERS (8) UNRAISED (8)
OT: SANDIVER (8) UNVARIED (8)
Score: 34–0 (max 36)

Even bigger ouch, as Bernie could've been UNVARIED, as well as being VARIED, but DENARIUS is a brill offering from Sam. 8-) 8-) 8-)

SANDIVER is scum that forms on molten glass.

Round 6: 75, 7, 3, 10, 4, 5. Target: 238.

Sam: 238. (3 x 75) + 10 + 7 - 4 (10)
Bernie: 239.
Score: 44–0 (max 46)

It's not going Bernie's way at all, as he misses a not too hard numbers game, and remains without score... :( :( :(

Dr. Linda talks about how to overcome increased anxiety.

Round 7: L G S T I O A E D

Sam: GODLIEST (8)
Bernie: GLOATED (7)
DC: ISOLATED (8) GODETIAS (8) DOGSTAIL (8)
OT: ALIGOTES (8) DIASTOLE (8) GOALSIDE (8) GOLDITES (8) SODALITE (8)
Score: 52–0 (max 54)

Sam certainly seems to be the GODLIEST player at the moment...

An ALIGOTE is a variety of grape grown in Burgundy; a white wine made from this grape.
DIASTOLE is the phase of the heartbeat when the heart muscle relaxes and allows the chambers to fill with blood.
A GOLDITE is an advocate of the gold standard.
SODALITE is a blue mineral consisting chiefly of an aluminosilicate and chloride of sodium, occurring chiefly in alkaline igneous rocks.

Round 8: L A C O V T I O W

Sam: VITAL (5)
Bernie: VOCAL (5)
DC: COITAL (6) WILCO (5)
OT: VOLTAIC (7)
Score: 57–5 (max 61)

Points at last for Bernie, and isn't he just so VOCAL about them too :!: :!: :!: :D :D :D

VOLTAIC is an adjective meaning relating to electricity produced by chemical action in a battery.

Round 9: 75, 9, 1, 7, 6, 2. Target: 641.

Sam: 641. ((75 + 6) x (9 - 1)) - 7 (10)
Bernie: 642.
Score: 67–5 (max 71)

But, the numbers still don't look good for Bernie....

Teatime teaser: AIMRANGER -> MARGARINE

Round 10: E N B A U S R I M

Sam: URBANISE (8)
Bernie: BASIN (5)
DC: ANEURISM (8) SUBMARINE (18)
Score: 75–5 (max 89)

A great 8 for Sam, but as luck would have it, the 9 appeared as a Teaser within the last few days :!: :!: :!:    :o :o :o

Round 11: D H T F A O I A E

Sam: TAIHOAED (8)
Bernie: HATED (5)
DC: FATHEAD (7)
Score: 83–5 (max 97)

Now that's a fantastic way to secure your second win!! What a word that is from Sam :!: :!: :!: :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "troll".

Round 12: C S T B I A E G Y

Sam: CAGIEST (7)
Bernie: BASIC (5)
DC: BISECT (6) GAIETY (6)
OT: GASEITY (7)
Score: 90–5 (max 104)

Sam still being the CAGIEST player, but can Bernie get off 5 points....???

GASEITY is gaseous character; the state or condition of being a gas.

Round 13: R P J M O I A E N

Sam: EMPORIA (7)
Bernie: jamier
DC: ROMAINE (7) MANROPE (7) MORAINE (7)
OT: MOANIER (7) RAMPION (7)
Score: 97–5 (max 111)

Well, it's not looking promising, but there's the final numbers still to come...

A RAMPION is a Eurasian plant of the bellflower family, some kinds of which have a root that can be eaten in salads.

Round 14: 50, 9, 5, 8, 2, 8. Target: 345.

Sam: 345. ((9 - 2) x 50) - 5 (10)
Bernie: 352.
Score: 107–5 (max 121)

OMG!!! The least said about that the better...., I think an unfortunate record is about to befall Bernie now....

Round 15: D E N T A L I S M

Sam buzzes on 1.75 seconds to say DISMANTLE which is correct.
Final Score: 117–5 (max 131)

And Sam seals the deal with the conundrum to make it 2 wins out of 2, but poor Bernie now has a record that he probably didn't want, as his score of 5 means he now has the lowest individual score in an episode of Countdown in this format, beating both Wendy Cooke (from Series 72) and Tara Abachi (from the start of this series), who both scored 6 in their respective games....

Well, let's forget about this quickly, and look positive with Sam tomorrow. :) :) :)
