Round 1: S I K Y A C P E I

David: SPACEY (6)
Pete: spicey
DC: SPICY (5) PEAKY (5) PICKIES (7)
OT: PACKIES (7) PAIKIES (7) PICKEYS (7)
Score: 6–0 (max 7)

You can't be SPICY with an E, so David takes the first lead today.

A PACKIE (or PAIKIE) is a Scottish dialect term for a pedlar.

Round 2: N M R O A E D N I

David: MOANER (6)
Pete: MOANIER (7)
DC: MOANED (6) MONDAINE (8)
OT: DEMONIAN (8) RADIOMEN (8)
Score: 6–7 (max 15)

But, you can be a MOANER and stick an I in it, so Pete takes the lead for himself.

DEMONIAN means of or relating to a demon or demons; of the nature of a demon.

Round 3: 25, 4, 8, 3, 5, 9. Target: 882.

David: 872.
Pete: 881. (9 x 4 x 25) - ((3 x 8) - 5) (7)
RR: 882. ((25 x 4) - (5 - 3)) x 9 (10)
Score: 6–14 (max 25)

Clearly, neither are fans of the 98 times table, but Pete increases his lead by being much closer than David.

Teatime teaser: NEWSROUND -> SUNDOWNER

Round 4: T W C E O A D S V

David: COASTED (7)
Pete: COASTED (7)
DC: OCTAVES (7)
OT: ADVECTS (7) AVOCETS (7) VODCAST (7)
Score: 13–21 (max 32)

Both players have easily COASTED along here... :) :) :)

To ADVECT is to transfer heat or matter by the flow of a fluid, especially horizontally in the atmosphere or the sea.
An AVOCET is a long-legged wading bird with a slender upturned bill and strikingly patterned plumage. (Genus Recurvirostra, family Recurvirostridae)

Round 5: L R E D O R L I S

David: sideroll
Pete: LORDLIER (8)
OT: DRILLERS (8) REDRILLS (8)
Score: 13–29 (max 40)

David seemed super certain of his, and Pete seemed less certain of his, but it's Pete who's the happier, as his is in, and David's isn't... :D

Round 6: 50, 4, 1, 8, 2, 2. Target: 469.

David: 469. Mistake in working.
Pete: 468. (50 + 2) x (8 + 1) (7)
RR: 469. ((((50 + 8) x 4) + 2) x 2) + 1 (10)
Score: 13–36 (max 50)

A very nasty numbers with only 1 possible solution appears, and unfortunately, David went the wrong way, and Pete pulls even further clear...

Nina talks about the perils of slipping the tongue on live TV.

Round 7: R W A L O C A B E

David: ROWABLE (7)
Pete: ORACLE (6)
DC: WARBLE (6)
OT: ALBACORE (8)
Score: 20–36 (max 58)

Well, David seemed to have little to no confidence with his 7, but it's in, and he's definitely still in it.

An ALBACORE is a tuna of warm seas, which travels in large schools and is of commercial importance as a food fish (Two species in the family Scombridae).

Round 8: H R T O U A P J I

David: troup
Pete: RATIO (5)
DC: UTOPIA (6) AUTHOR (6) PUJARI (6)
OT: OPHIURA (7)
Score: 20–41 (max 65)

Ooops, you need an E for a TROUPE....

An OPHIURA is a genus of brittlestars of the family Ophiuridae.

Round 9: 75, 8, 5, 3, 10, 6. Target: 632.

David: 632. (75 + 10 - 6) x 8 (10)
Pete: 632. (75 + 10 - 6) x 8 (10)
Score: 30–51 (max 75)

Simples...

Teatime teaser: URBANSEMI -> SUBMARINE

Round 10: G N V E I E R T D

David: VEERING (7)
Pete: INVERTED (8)
OT: DIVERGENT (18)
Score: 30–59 (max 93)

A great 8 for Pete, but the NINE is missed by all here...

Round 11: S A C N E D A G E

David: CAGED (5)
Pete: ENCASED (7)
OT: AGENDAS (7) ENCAGED (7) ENCAGES (7)
Score: 30–66 (max 100)

Pete is pulling further and further clear now....

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "egg".

Round 12: F T M A E E N G I

David: MEETING (7)
Pete: TEAMING (7)
DC: GEMINATE (8)
OT: FEMINATE (8)
Score: 37–73 (max 108)

Plenty of -ING's there, and Pete is pretty much guaranteed his win now. :D :D :D

Round 13: T R E M O S U Q R

David: QUOTERS (7)
Pete: TREMORS (7)
DC: MOSQUE (6) TROUSER (7)
OT: MORSURE (7) QUESTOR (7) RETOURS (7) ROQUETS (7) ROSTRUM (7) ROTURES (7) ROUSTER (7) ROUTERS (7) STORMER (7) TERMORS (7) TORQUES (7) TOURERS (7)
Score: 44–80 (max 115)

And that super flat round secures yet another challenger wins on the show. :o :o :o

A MORSURE is the action or an act of biting; a bite.
In pre-revolutionary France, Canada under the seigneurial system, and certain other places with a polity based on the French feudal system, a ROTURE is a tenure of land subject to payment of rent as opposed to feudal obligations of homage and personal service.
A TERMOR is a person who holds land or tenements for a term of years; a tenant, a lessee.

Round 14: 50, 7, 5, 9, 3, 7. Target: 957.

David: 957. ((3 + 7 + 9) x 50) + 7 (10)
Pete: 957. ((3 + 7 + 9) x 50) + 7 (10)
Score: 54–90 (max 125)

Another easy numbers, so Pete now has the chance for a century. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Round 15: I N T O O S O U R

No one buzzes. The answer was NOTORIOUS.
Final Score: 54–90 (max 135)

Alas, neither player can solve it, so it's left to Rachel to sort it out. :D :D :D

And so, for the 6th show in a row, the defending champion is defeated. Will it be an unlucky 7 for Pete tomorrow, or will he break this "curse" :?: :?: :?:
