Tom: LARCENOUS (18)
Zarte: LARCENOUS (18)
DC: CONSULAR (8) LANCERS (7)
Score: 18–18 (max 18)

Now that's the way, a-ha, a-ha, I like it :!: :!: Invoking the spirit of Jason too :!: :!: :P :P

Round 2: I U N C L E N A D

Tom: UNNAILED (8)
Zarte: UNNAILED (8)
DC: INCLUDE (7) UNCLEAN (7)
OT: UNLANCED (8)
Score: 26–26 (max 26)

And followed up by a great 8 too. 8-) 8-)

Round 3: 75, 6, 10, 2, 4, 9. Target: 150.

Tom: 150. 75 x 2 (10)
Zarte: 150. 75 x 2 (10)
Score: 36–36 (max 36)

Absolutely brilliant entertainment :!: :!: We all know how this is done, so while the clock was running, our players played rock, paper, scissors :!: :!:    (Unfortunately, we don't know who won, due to the dodgy camera angles... :P :P )

Teatime teaser: SEEHERTUT -> USHERETTE

Round 4: I T S E W O S B L

Tom: BLOWIEST (8)
Zarte: BLOWSIEST (18)
Score: 36–54 (max 54)

WOWSER!!! Zarte takes the lead with a fantastic NINE :!: :!:

Round 5: D I T A V E D A G

Tom: DIVAGATE (8)
Zarte: DIVAGATED (18)
DC: AVIATED (7)
Score: 36–72 (max 72)

WOAH! WOAH!! WOAH!!! WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE :!: :!: :?: :?: :? :?

THREE NINES IN THE FIRST FOUR LETTERS GAMES!!!??? THIS IS MADNESS!!!

I don't wish to tempt fate, but is a certain record set in December 2002 (and equalled in the 30th Birthday Championship final) under threat...??

Round 6: 100, 25, 4, 10, 6, 10. Target: 524.

Tom: 524. ((100 + 4) x 6) - (10 x 10) (10)
Zarte: 524. (100 + 25 + 6) x 4 (10)
Score: 46–82 (max 82)

And don't forget there's still a MAX GAME possibility too...   :o :o :o 8-) 8-) 8-)

I so can't contain myself right now (but neither did anyone else who was in the audience for this either!!! :D :D :D )

Jon talks about getting a job on Spitting Image, of which Lenny Henry had a helping hand.

Round 7: T O S I G O M E F

Tom: GOOFIEST (8)
Zarte: GOOFIEST (8)
DC: FOOTIES (7)
Score: 54–90 (max 90)

Round 8: U E O L W D R A S

Tom: ROULADES (8)
Zarte: ROULADES (8)
DC: AROUSED (7) WALDOES (7)
Score: 62–98 (max 98)

Round 9: 50, 100, 25, 75, 2, 4. Target: 465.

Tom: 465. ((100 - 2) x 4) + 75 - (50 / 25) (10)
Zarte: 465. ((100 - 2) x 4) + 75 - (50 / 25) (10)
Score: 72–108 (max 108)

Double double darren followed by a perfect solve, and just look at that score going into the second break... ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT!!!

Teatime teaser: DONEINRAT -> RODENTIAN

Round 10: E Q T I A F D E R

Tom: FEARTIE (7)
Zarte: FEARTIE (7)
OT: DRAFTEE (7) FEARDIE (7)
Score: 79–115 (max 115)

Round 11: K I G U R O M E P

Tom: GROUPIE (7)
Zarte: GROUPIE (7)
DC: PIROGUE (7)
Score: 86–122 (max 122)

Another pair of great 7's, but it's fair to say that the question in most of our heads was..., "What score will Zarte get?" - 150+, 155+, 160+... :?: :?: :?:

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "eye".

Round 12: I A T S U M I R S

Tom: TIRAMISUS (18)
Zarte: MATSURIS (8)
Score: 104–122 (max 140)

WOAH!!!! INCOMING CURVEBALL!!!! Just when you think you've seen it all, Tom pulls out not only a MAX GAME breaker, but a possible way back into this quarter-final with a NINE of his own :!: :!: :!: Is it even conceivable that he could do what Zarte did in R4/5 and get back-to-back NINES in consecutive legs unopposed... :? :? :?: :?:

Round 13: J O N E D E R A P

Tom: PARDONEE (8)
Zarte: PARDONEE (8)
Score: 112–130 (max 148)

Well, that hasn't happened, but even though Zarte has got 130 points on the board already, he still hasn't won it yet :!: :!: :!: :o :o :o

Luckily for him though, he does have the pick in this final numbers game....

Round 14: 100, 25, 8, 1, 4, 4. Target: 216.

Tom: 216. ((25 + 1) x 8) + 4 + 4 (10)
Zarte: 216. (25 x 8) + (4 x 4) (10)
Score: 122–140 (max 158)

Well, the miracle comeback for Tom is off, but now...., is Zarte going to do something unimaginable...., something I don't think many people put into consideration, and BREAK the high score record jointly held by Julian Fell and Conor Travers, which has been in the record books for over SIXTEEN long years :!: :!: :!: :?: :?: :?:

HERE WE GO!!!

Round 15: M I S S A L I C E

One second...

One and a half......   BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ :P :P :P

Zarte buzzes on 1.5 seconds..... :o :o :o

to say.........

SEISMICAL................

WHICH IS CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :o :o :o ;) ;) ;) :) :) :) :D :D :D    8-) 8-) 8-) :geek: :geek: :geek: :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

Final Score: 122–150 (max 168) :D :D :D :o :o :o    :geek: :geek: :geek: :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

INCREDIBLE, JUST INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! I SORT OF WANTED TO BE IN TOM'S PLACE TO GIVE ZARTE A BIG HUG FOR DOING THAT!!!! :D :D :D :P :P :P 8-) 8-) 8-)

But, that is something else!!! Zarte Siempre is now the new record holder for the highest individual score in the entire 36 year history of Countdown!!!

It was an honour for us all to be there, and I never anticipated anything like this when I went to these recordings..., but big congrats to Zarte, and massive commiserations to Tom, who scored 122, and never really got a look in after the double header in Rounds 4 and 5, but is still a history maker too, as the combined score of 272 is also the highest combined score in a single match in the show's history too :!: :!: :!: 8-) 8-) 8-)

WOW! WOW! WOW! And to think, this is only the quarter-final, what might happen in the semis and the final :?: :?:

And even more amazingly, the 2 semi-finals are repeats of the last 2 series finals (if you discount Series 79, which isn't represented in this CoC), as tomorrow we have Zarte taking on Philip Aston (for the THIRD TIME), before Tom Chafer-Cook and Bradley Horrocks do battle on Monday. :D :D :D 8-) 8-) 8-) :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

Right, time for a lie down....... :P :P :P    :D :D :D
