Round 1: N A T R E L O E I

Matthew: ORIENTAL (8)
Dougie: RELATION (8)
DC: TREENAIL (8)
OT: AEROLITE (8) ROTALINE (8)
Score: 8–8 (max 8)

Round 2: T X A I M O T I R

Matthew: AXIOM (5)
Dougie: IMITATOR (8)
DC: MATRIX (6)
Score: 8–16 (max 16)

After a simple eight apiece in the first round, Dougie proves he's no IMITATOR with a great 8. :D :D

Round 3: 7, 6, 6, 7, 9, 1. Target: 700.

Matthew: 700. (((6 + 6) x 9) - 7 - 1) x 7 (10)
Dougie: -
Score: 18–16 (max 26)

But, Dougie's joy is shortlived, as a perfect 6 small solve from Matthew gives him the lead.

Teatime teaser: INSIDEDOE -> DEIONISED

Round 4: L N O G I P N U P

Matthew: LOPPING (7)
Dougie: LOPPING (7)
DC: UNPOPING (8)
Score: 25–23 (max 34)

Certainly a bizarre darrenic 8 from DC there...  :P :P

Round 5: S I R M A Y O A C

Matthew: MOSAIC (6)
Dougie: MAYORS (6)
DC: SARCOMA (7)
OT: AMSCRAY (7) MYRICAS (7)
Score: 31–29 (max 41)

Round 6: 100, 2, 9, 6, 10, 1. Target: 534.

Matthew: 534. ((10 x 9) - 1) x 6 (10)
Dougie: 534. (100 - 10 - 1) x 6 (10)
Score: 41–39 (max 51)

Kate talks about how she gathered stories for her new book by meeting people whilst walking.

Round 7: S E R D A J I A I

Matthew: DAIRIES (7)
Dougie: DIARISE (7)
DC: AIRSIDE (7)
OT: DIARIES (7)
Score: 48–46 (max 58)

The gap remains at 2 after a trio of matching rounds...

Round 8: T V E R I D O M E

Matthew: overtimed
Dougie: overtimed
DC: OVERTIME (8) REMOTIVE (8)
OT: REVOMITED (18)
Score: 48–46 (max 76)

And the gap still is 2, but only after both players realise that they can't be overtimed... :( :( Having said that, they probably will have both REVOMITED, if they knew what the actual 9 was... :P :P

Round 9: 10, 8, 9, 7, 3, 8. Target: 505.

Matthew: 505. (9 x 8 x 7) + 8 + 3 - 10 (10)
Dougie: 506.
Score: 58–46 (max 86)

6 small helps out Matthew yet again, as his lead now goes into double figures.

Teatime teaser: TRIMUPMOP -> IMPROMPTU

Round 10: C D E S A P I D O

Matthew: DECAPODS (8)
Dougie: CADDIES (7)
OT: SCIAPODE (8)
Score: 66–46 (max 94)

A brilliant 8 spot by Matthew takes his lead up to 20 points. 8-)

Round 11: T U R S O D I T H

Matthew: THRUST (6)
Dougie: TRUTHS (6)
DC: DISTORT (7) OUTHITS (7)
OT: DROUTHS (7) ORTHIDS (7) ROUTISH (7) RUTTISH (7) TOURIST (7)
Score: 72–52 (max 101)

Quite a few 7's, but none spotted by either player...

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "goody two shoes".

Round 12: P S E R I N A R E

Matthew: RAPINERS (8 - although he says RAPINERS, Susie thought he said REPINERS (8), which is fine anyway, and Rachel also put REPINERS up on the board....)
Dougie: sprainer
DC: PARRIES (7) REPAIRS (7)
OT: REARISEN (8) RIPENERS (8)
Score: 80–52 (max 109)

Was it RAPINERS :?: Was it REPINERS :?: Who knows, but either way, both are valid, so no controversy, but the only bad thing is that Dougie's sprainer isn't in... :(

Round 13: L U S V E W O A E

Matthew: VOWELS (6)
Dougie: WEASEL (6)
DC: WOLVES (6) VALUES (6)
OT: ALVEUS (6) AVULSE (6) LEAVES (6) LOAVES (6) LOVEES (6) OVULAS (6) OVULES (6) WEAVES (6)
Score: 86–58 (max 115)

Loads of 6's seal the deal for Matthew here, who himself goes for the appropriate VOWELS. :) :)

Round 14: 100, 50, 75, 25, 8, 3. Target: 112.

Matthew: 112. ((50 + 25) / 75) + 3 + 8 + 100 (10)
Dougie: 112. ((50 + 25) / 75) + 3 + 8 + 100 (10)
Score: 96–68 (max 125)

Round 15: H O O P E R M E N

Dougie buzzes on 4.75 seconds to say PHEROMONE which is correct.
Final Score: 96–78 (max 135)

And Dougie has the last laugh by denying Matthew a century with the conundrum solve. But, Matthew was in control for the majority of the match, mainly thanks to his 6 small selections, and he will be back on the 16th to play either Martin Hurst or Tom Chafer-Cook. :D :D :D
