Hello and welcome to another Monday recap. Andrew Fenton became the first octochamp of the series last Wednesday, so today sees the introduction of two new contestants.

C1: Challenger Steve Broad. A support worker from New Milton, Hampshire. An ex professional footballer who played for Chelsea youth team and reserves before transferring to Southend United.
C2: Challenger Rachel Sheridan. A chief product officer for an online retail group. Plays netball and is first team captain at Radlett LTSC.
DC: Susie Dent and Alison Steadman.

A good spot from Rachel gives her a comfortable early lead. Steve has plenty of time to come back though.

A tough selection has the contestants stuck on five. DC spot one of the sixes.

NERINE: A bulbous South African plant with narrow strap-shaped petals that are typically crimped and twisted and appear when there are no leaves.

Round 3: 4, 10, 5, 10, 4, 75. Target: 500.

An easy numbers, but Steve goes the long way round. Ten points each though.

It's not STRANGE that both players get 7 points here. DC spot a good 8.

TANAGERS: A small American songbird of the bunting family, the male of which typically has brightly coloured plumage.

Steve can only find a 4 allowing Rachel to further her lead.

Score: 29–53 (max 59)

A few different ways to solve this, but the contestants both get 1 away allowing Rachel to shine.

Alison talks about when she fell asleep on stage whilst performing as Desdemona in Shakespeare's Othello.

A difficult selection sees the players stuck on four. DC spot a very good eight.

Steve's risky 7 is disallowed giving Rachel a 30pt lead with 4 rounds to go.

Another straight forward numbers sees Rachel past the 100 mark.

No one buzzes. The answer was DISPENSED.
Final Score: 72–102 (max 135)

Neither contestant can spot the conundrum, allowing a gentleman in the audience to claim a countdown mug.

After a perfect start Rachel never looked in danger of losing this match and she will be hoping to follow it up with a few more wins at least.
