Round 1: M T P N U I E D A

Sean: IMPUTED (7)
Priya: PANTED (6)
DC: IMPUDENT (8)
Score: 7–0 (max 8)

Decent start for Sean, who takes an early lead, although Priya could've stuck the I in PANTED for PAINTED.....

Round 2: H T E O R G L A I

Sean: GLOATER (7)
Priya: GLOATER (7)
DC: LITHARGE (8)
OT: AEROLITH (8) REGOLITH (8)
Score: 14–7 (max 16)

Now we have a pair of GLOATERs, but there are a trio of 8's in and around this selection. :)

An AEROLITH is another name for a meteorite.
REGOLITH is the layer of unconsolidated solid material covering the bedrock of a planet.

Round 3: 50, 100, 25, 75, 6, 4. Target: 987.

Sean: 990. (6 + 4) x (100 - ((25 + 50) / 75)) (7)
Priya: 975.
RR: 986/988. (7)
OT: 986. ((100 + 4) x (6 + (75 / 25))) + 50 (7)
Score: 21–7 (max 23)

Back to 4 large again for Sean, and he pulls further clear thanks to this impossible numbers.

Teatime teaser: TEDDRIVE -> DIVERTED

Round 4: H T E A W R L U I

Sean: HAULIER (7)
Priya: WAITER (6)
DC: LATHER (6)
OT: LUTHIER (7)
Score: 28–7 (max 30)

And it's another 7 points for Sean, and he's heading nicely towards his half-octochampdom.

A LUTHIER is a maker of stringed instruments such as violins or guitars.

Round 5: J S C T A O U D A

Sean: aducts
Priya: ADJUST (6)
DC: DUCATS (6)
OT: ACAJOUS (7)
Score: 28–13 (max 37)

Well, that's a slight stumbling block for Sean, but can he ADJUST quickly :? :?:

ACAJOU is another name for a cashew.

Round 6: 75, 100, 8, 2, 5, 2. Target: 839.

Sean: 839. ((100 + 5) x 8) - (2 / 2) (10)
Priya: 820.
Score: 38–13 (max 47)

He sure can, as he gets the target spot on with Priya out of range again....

Round 7: N G S K I E A S D

Sean: ASKING (6)
Priya: ASKING (6)
DC: SINKAGE (7) ASSIGNED (8)

Sean: RATIOS (6)
Priya: STAIR (5)
DC: AMORIST (7)
OT: SARTORII (8)
Score: 50–19 (max 63)

More good wordplay from Sean, as he pulls further clear still....

Round 9: 75, 100, 25, 50, 3, 10. Target: 526.

Sean: 525. (10 x 50) + 25 (7)
Priya: 525. (10 x 50) + 25 (7)
RR: 526. ((50 + 3) x 10) - (100 / 25) (10)
Score: 57–26 (max 73)

Sean stills persists with the 4 large, even though he's clearly not quite up to it...., and he fails to take advantage, as both he and Priya are 1 away....

Teatime teaser: DISARMME -> MERMAIDS

Round 10: L T U E A G N C I

Sean: TANGLE (6)
Priya: culting
DC: ANGELIC (7) ELATING (7)
OT: CINGULATE (18)
Score: 63–26 (max 91)

A not unreasonable guess from Priya, but you can't be culting someone unfortunately, but there was an amazing 9, which trumped by great 8 of CULTIGEN. :P

CINGULATE is an adjective relating to CINGULUM, the curved bundle of nerve fibres in each hemisphere of the brain.

Round 11: M L S F O U E N Q

Sean: FULSOME (7)
Priya: FUMES (5)
Score: 70–26 (max 98)

Sean is closing in on victory now thanks to his FULSOME offering. :P

Susie's Origins of Words talks about the origin of the phrase "not by a long chalk".

Round 12: B T I U P T A Y U

Sean: PUTTY (5)
Priya: PUTTY (5)

Score: 75–31 (max 103)

Just 5's, 5's and more 5's. :P :P :P :P :P But, 5 will do to see Sean back for his 5th show tomorrow. :P

A BUTUT is the monetary unit of Gambia, equal to one hundredth of a dalasi.
PATTU or PUTTU is woollen fabric typically made of the coarse overhair of the Kashmir goat.
PITTU is a West African beer made from fermented maize or rice.

Round 13: D R M S E I O N I

Sean: MINORISED (18)
Priya: RESIN (5)
Score: 93–31 (max 121)

Now that's a great NINE from Sean, who is now on course for back-to-back centuries thanks to his MINORISED offering. :)

Round 14: 100, 75, 1, 8, 8, 5. Target: 376.

Sean: 376. (5 x 75) + 1 (10)
Priya: -
Score: 103–31 (max 131)

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, such bad luck for Priya, who clearly didn't memorise her 75 times table for the show.....

Round 15: F I D D L E N O W

Sean buzzes on 12 seconds to say DOWNFILED which is incorrect.
Priya does not buzz.
The answer was DOWNFIELD.
Final Score: 103–31 (max 141)

Ouchy, if missing 376 was a mistake for Priya, this was in the same category for Sean

So, it's 4 in a row for Sean, who after struggling early doors has now scored back-to-back centuries and is creeping up the leaderboard.....

Will it be 5 in a row tomorrow :? :?:

Who knows?? Bye for now. ;) :) :D
