Enjoy the show.

Round 1: V T L U A E I H G

Matty: LIGATE (6)
Paula: LIGATE (6)
DC: ALIGHT (6)
OT: VIHUELA (7) VULGATE (7)
Score: 6–6 (max 7)

Matty and Paula give different pronunciations of LIGATE, but whichever one is right is not relevant to the game because they’ve both spelled a valid word.

Round 2: S T C O I S M T U

Matty: costumist
Paula: CUSTOMS (7)
OT: OUTSITS (7) SITCOMS (7)
Score: 6–13 (max 14)

Matty goes for a risky nine despite seeming to know that the term is COSTUMIER, but as its early in the game he probably thought it worth a try.
In what way can someone OUTSIT someone else?

Round 3: 4, 7, 9, 25, 100, 50. Target: 432.

Matty: 432. (4*100)+25+7 (10)
Paula: 432. (4*100)+25+7 (10)
Score: 16–23 (max 24)

Matty picks three large, probably hoping for a hard one, but he doesn’t get it and its simple for them both.

Teatime teaser: NEARWOOD -> WANDEROO

Round 4: G R E U S P T E G

Matty: TUGGERS (7)
Paula: GUEST (5)
DC: REPUTES (7)
OT: GESTURE (7)
Score: 23–23 (max 31)

Susie describes a few definitions of TUGGERS, I suspect there are others too that would be inappropriate for Susie to describe in a mid afternoon slot.
It also means that Matty pulls level following his risk in round 2.

Round 5: D N T A I E V Y M

Matty: DEVIANT (7)
Paula: DETAIN (6)
DC: DYNAMITE (8)
Score: 30–23 (max 39)

Matty takes the lead here as DC impress with DYNAMITE.

Round 6: 6, 4, 3, 3, 75, 100. Target: 827.

Matty: 825. ((6+4)+(3/3))*75 (7)
Paula: -
RR: 827. (((75*4)+3+6)*3)+100 (10)
Score: 37–23 (max 49)

Surprising to see an apterite like Matty miss this one, but he still beats his opponent and takes his lead into double figures.

DC Guest – Phil talks about his new concept, SCARF training. It leads to him talking about ways to recognise serious illness.

Round 7: R G P A I T E Q P

Matty: GAPPIER (7)
Paula: TIPPER (6)
OT: PERIAPT (7)
Score: 44–23 (max 56)

GAPPIER is hardly the most elegant word one could declare, bt that won’t bother Matty as his lead increases further.

Round 8: R L R O A I D N A

Matty: ORDINAL (7)
Paula: RAILROAD (8)
Score: 44–31 (max 64)

Finally its the challengers turn to impress as she spots RAILROAD, an impressive spot no doubt.

Round 9: 4, 10, 5, 3, 8, 25. Target: 440.

Matty: 440. (8+3)*4*10 (10)
Paula: -
Score: 54–31 (max 74)

Paula follows her best round with one of her worst, one would have expect her to be able to block out the ten and use the others to get 44.

Teatime teaser: TUBEJAIL -> JUBILATE

Round 10: R H L E A K S L E

Matty: HEALERS (7)
Paula: LEAKERS (7)
OT: RAKEHELLS (18)
Score: 61–38 (max 92)

Sevens for the contestants but there was an obscure nine in the mix. RAKEHELLS are fashionable or wealthy men of immoral or promiscuous habits.

Round 11: W R I A F D E A N

Matty: WANDER (6)
Paula: FRIEND (6)
DC: INWARD (6) FARINA (6)
OT: ARANEID (7)
Score: 67–44 (max 99)

Matty has been comfortably in the lead for a few rounds now, he looks good to score win number three.

OoW – Susie talks about the origins of the names of some gemstones that have medical origins.

Round 12: T N D E O I B R E

Matty: BONIER (6)
Paula: TENDER (6)
DC: BORNITE (7) REDBONE (7) ORIENTED (8)
OT: INTERBED (8) OBEDIENT (8)
Score: 73–50 (max 107)

Matty gets through another round with his 23 point lead meaning victory is all but assured.

Round 13: S N W A E O A P R

Matty: RESPAWN (7)
Paula: APRONS (6)
DC: WEAPONS (7) PERSONA (7)
OT: ENWRAPS (7) SPAWNER (7)
Score: 80–50 (max 114)

Nice to see Matty declare seven with certainty rather than pretend he doesn’t know if its in.

Round 14: 3, 6, 9, 7, 25, 100. Target: 122.

Matty: 122. (25-3+100) (10)
Paula: 122. (25-3+100) (10)
Score: 90–60 (max 124)

Nothing to say about this round

Round 15: F R O M I T A L Y

Matty buzzes on 2 seconds to say FORMALITY which is correct.
Final Score: 100–60 (max 134)

So From Italy because FORMALITY and Matty spots his first conundrum, which gives him his highest score so far.

Paula is currently on a career break and its good that when choosing activities for this period she chose an appearance on Countdown as one of them. Career breaks are a good thing and hopefully shes got travel, expeditions, meditation and other self-fulfillment goals on the horizon as well.

Summer is pretty much over so lets hope we all have a good autumn...

Ok, sorry. I was actually trying to give you a compliment in that many times other contestants have described a word as risky when they are fully aware that it is valid. You on the other hand were decisive in your declaration as you knew it was valid and said it as such.
