Enjoy the show.

Round 1: R N S P A I E D T

Bobby: PAINTERS (8)
Peter: SPRAINED (8)
DC: DIPTERANS (18)
Score: 8–8 (max 18)

Plenty of 8's to start with here, but DC spot the 9 in the line, which amazingly makes its first appearance on the show since just before the premature death of Richard Whiteley.

Round 2: R O Z N E T A R P

Bobby: PRONATE (7)
Peter: OPERANT (7)
DC: PARTNER (7)
OT: PRAETOR (7) PRORATE (7) PROTEAN (7)
Score: 15–15 (max 25)

Another anagrammatical favourite of recent times with PRONATE/OPERANT appearing, but nothing to top it.............

In the ancient Roman republic, a PRAETOR was one of a number of elected magistrates charged chiefly with the administration of civil justice and ranking next below a consul.

Round 3: 75, 4, 5, 2, 6, 1. Target: 134.

Bobby: 134. (2 x 75) - ((5 - 1) x 4) (10)
Peter: 134. (75 - 6 - 1 - (5 - 4)) x 2 (10)
Score: 25–25 (max 35)

2 very different methods, but 2 lots of 10 points here, and it's a very good start from our players today. :)

Teatime teaser: SUPERGAL -> EARPLUGS

Round 4: M E L O F A C T R

Bobby: FLAMER (6)
Peter: FORMATE (7)
OT: CROTALE (7) FEMORAL (7) FLOATER (7) FLOREAT (7) REFLOAT (7)
Score: 25–32 (max 42)

Peter takes the first lead of the day with his brilliant 7. :)

Round 5: N S F E I U P L O

Bobby: FELONS (6)
Peter: uplines
DC: LUPINS (6) LUPINE (6)
OT: ELUSION (7) EPSILON (7) LUPINES (7) OLEFINS (7) SULFONE (7) UPSILON (7)
Score: 31–32 (max 49)

An unlucky miss from Peter there, but not even DC could find a 7, although there were plenty available............

A LUPINE is any of numerous plants belonging to the genus Lupinus, of the legume family, as Lupinus albus (white lupine) of Europe, bearing edible seeds, or Lupinus perennis, of the eastern U.S., having tall, dense clusters of blue, pink, or white flowers.
A SULFONE is any of a class of organic compounds containing the bivalent group –SO2–, united with two hydrocarbon groups.

Round 6: 100, 25, 4, 2, 8, 10. Target: 237.

Bobby: 237. (2 x 100) + 25 + (8 / 4) + 10 (10)
Peter: 237. (2 x 100) + 25 + 8 + 4 (10)
Score: 41–42 (max 59)

Simple numbers again, even if Bobby tried to make it slightly complicated near the end........ :P

Michael talks about his time when he stayed at a posh friend's house, and then when the reverse happened, his mum tried to emulate their silver sideboard using boxes where they put their jewellery in :!:

Round 7: S R G S E I R O I

Bobby: grossier
Peter: sorries
DC: ORGIES (6) gorsier GORIER (6)
OT: GROSSER (7)
Score: 41–42 (max 66)

Oh dear, oh dear, a double no for our contestants, but on the plus side, Michael fancies some ORGIES. :P

Round 8: D E K U R M A T D

Bobby: MATURED (7)
Peter: MARKET (6)
Score: 48–42 (max 73)

Bobby has MATURED a bit and his darrenic 7 gives him the lead for the first time today. :D

Round 9: 50, 10, 1, 2, 2, 5. Target: 929.

Bobby: -
Peter: -
RR: 929. (((50 x 2) - 5 - 2) x 10) - 1 (10)
Score: 48–42 (max 83)

A double blank from the contestants, which leaves the game still close, while Rachel shows us all how it's done. 8-)

Teatime teaser: TERMBOSS -> MOBSTERS

Round 10: T E B I S N O H G

Bobby: HOSTING (7)
Peter: HOSTING (7)
OT: GOBSHITE (8)
Score: 55–49 (max 91)

While both players are HOSTING, DC seem to be cut short with what they're doing........... Was it because they had that interesting 8 up there :?: :? :P

Round 11: M S V A E T N O A

Bobby: NOVATES (7)
Peter: NOVATES (7)
OT: MOVANTS (7) NAMASTE (7) SAVANTE (7) SMETANA (7)
Score: 62–56 (max 98)

A nice pair of 7's from the contestants here. These guys seem to want to fight to the finish. 8-)

NAMASTE is a conventional Hindu expression on meeting or parting, used by the speaker usually while holding the palms together vertically in front of the bosom.
A SAVANTE is a woman of great learning.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "horrible", "goosebumps" and "morgue".

Round 12: T E S L I R A T H

Bobby: RETAILS (7)
Peter: RETAILS (7)
DC: RATTLES (7) LATHERS (7) SLATHER (7) THISTLE (7)
OT: ARTIEST (7) ARTISTE (7) ATHEIST (7) ATHIRST (7) ATTIRES (7) HAILERS (7) HALIERS (7) HALTERS (7) HASTIER (7) HATTERS (7) HITTERS (7) LATEISH (7) LITHEST (7) LITTERS (7) RATITES (7) REALIST (7) SALTIER (7) SALTIRE (7) SHALIER (7) SHATTER (7) SLITHER (7) SLITTER (7) STAITHE (7) STARLET (7) STARLIT (7) STARTLE (7) STEALTH (7) STRIATE (7) TASTIER (7) THALERS (7) THREATS (7) TILTERS (7) TIRTHAS (7)
Score: 69–63 (max 105)

Crikey!!! 38 7-letter-words available here :!: :!:

A HALIER was a monetary unit of Slovakia until the euro was adopted, the 100th part of a koruna.
A RATITE is a bird having a ratite breastbone, a flat, unkeeled sternum, as an ostrich, cassowary, emu, or moa.
A THALER is any of various former large coins of various German states.

Round 13: P B Q E O E R V A

Bobby: BEAVER (6)
Peter: BEAVER (6)
DC: PROBE (5)
OT: AEROBE (6) PAREVE (6) PEROBA (6)
Score: 75–69 (max 111)

And after the ORGIES earlier, we finish with a pair of BEAVERs........ :P I'm saying nothing (apart from that. :P )

In Judaism, PAREVE is an adjective meaning having no meat or milk in any form as an ingredient and being permissible for use with both meat and dairy meals as stated in the dietary laws.

Round 14: 100, 50, 1, 5, 8, 8. Target: 979.

Bobby: -
Peter: 976. Mistake in working.
RR: 979. ((100 / 5) x (50 - 1)) - (8 / 8) (10)
Score: 75–69 (max 121)

Another double blank in the numbers (I have a feeling that Peter thought he had a 75 in the selection after starting his method with 8 + 5), but at least Rachel's on top form, as we head into a CRUCIAL CONUNDRUM :!: :!:

Round 15: L A P D A N C E S

Bobby buzzes on 4 seconds to say LANDSCAPE which is correct.
Final Score: 85–69 (max 131)

And it's the cabbie who beats the copper to the pass with his picture perfect LANDSCAPE to wrap up his hat-trick.

So, Bobby will return tomorrow for the next game, where his opponent will be Apterous' very own Mark Murray. 8-)

I would say you'll be joining me for that, but I'm busy at a quiz tomorrow, so I've brought in Jack Worsley to do tomorrow's recap for you all. 8-) 8-)

So, I'll be back next Wednesday for my next instalment.

So, till then, bye bye for now. ;) :) :D  8-)
