New and pointless competition!

Post by Charlie Reams »

I've decided that not enough of our users have avatars. So, to encourage you to do something about, we have...

A competition!

You have one week to give yourself the best avatar EVER. The picture can be of you, something to do with you, or anything else witty and interesting. The judge will be the member of C4C known for having the best taste in Internet imagery, which is to say, me. There will be a real actual prize, whose nature I haven't yet decided (suggestions welcome.)

If you want to enter, please post in this thread, so I can review them. People who already have avatars are also eligible, and you don't have to change them.

To change your avatar: click on the User Control Panel (under the picture of Des & Carol), open the Profile tab, and click "Edit avatar". The rest should be self-explanatory. Remember that the avatars are limited in size, so don't spend hours drawing a 2000x2000 illustrated history of the British Isles.

Clearly we need a competition for the best representation of the history of the British Isles in the space of an avatar.

Maybe.

Well I give up. The pics I want to use are too big. I don't know how to shrink them. I've tried copying them into Paint and then resizing and resaving but it saves a load of white with my picture tiny in the corner. I hate these avatar things as I can never make them work.

In Paint, select the area you want to keep and copy it to the clipboard. Press CTRL+E and change the canvas size to 1 x 1 pixels. Then press CTRL+V.

If you're really having problems then email me the picture and I'll resize it for you.

I've selected the area I want by drawing a box round it. I then pressed Ctrl+C to copy as i don't know what copying to clipboard is. I changed the size to 1x1 pixel and it was tiny. I then pressed ctrl+v and the big picture came up again. Anybody got foolproof instructions?

I am having the same problems as Kirk.

I tried to make it simple and make just a picture of me my avatar, but just using the steps in Microsoft Paint doesn't work.

I'm not sure why the pictures taken of me are so big.

Can someone please help me?

Does an avatar have to be a picture of oneself? If not, then I'd like to enter for the 'Most arty farty' prize for my photo of a hot air balloon taken from inside the basket (by me).

If it has to be a picture of me, I might have to dig out an old 1980s picture that you can all laugh at.

I think you're kidding, Jon.

It was a normal camera, and the person taking the picture was looking directly at me.

And Karen, you're definitely kidding.

In my view, first and second places have to go to the Corbys, but I can't judge which order they'll come in.

In any case, I think that the picture of young Jon has to be shown on TV when he appears in the next COC. :D

He may have called the meaner girls, "blankety blanks" but that must be because he didn't know the meanings of such harsh words.

Really?

Well then, the following song probably describes the look on your face when you were that young.

Blankety blank, blankety blank (Boom, boom, boom)
Blankety blank, blankety blank (boom, boom boom)
Blankety blank, blankety blank, blankety blank
Blankety blank.

You were probably wondering where Terry Wogan was when you needed him!

The only complement I've received on my picture has been from Jon O'Neill. What does everyone else think?

Also, there will be another 2-hour and 15-minute game show block on Channel 4 thanks to Richard and Judy's show getting canceled.

It will start off with our favorite game, Countdown, with Des O'Connor, then it will continue with Deal or No Deal with our buddy Noel Edmonds. After that, it will culminate with Terry Wogan's Total Recall in Richard and Judy's old slot.

Is everyone looking forward to that?

But I have a fine array of fake moustaches, ranging from "Casual Rogue" all the way to "Outraged Major". You can choose! I'd be happy to send you one in the post. You've got to have a picture taken of you wearing it, though.
