Yes, E1 would be cool.

Well, yes. But there's also an Alexandria in Dunbartonshire which is up in that wee country north of Engerland. I'm John Gillies, born in 1961 and my hobbies include...etc

Hope to see you all on the tables soon :D

OP updated for Mark and James. Think that covers all the mystery usernames now.

Time wise, it said ET, which I think is the same as the more popular EST, as in Eastern Standard Time.
So for the record, add 5 hours on to get GMT.

Tournament tonight then? Just a $5 to get everyone going?

Not sure who you are waiting for - Hulme, Gough, May, DanVan, De Caux, Makepeace and DoD never really use the forum anymore, so unless you've told them elsewhere (Facebook is an option? and have you mentioned on apterous?), the only name remaining is Charlie.

John - does Scott not poke?

I'm sat on a table but no one is at the table with me. I've just clicked on something else and got a picture up of Jason Larsen. I'm confused by this whole thing.

Anyone know what country it counts as if you deposit money? My bank charge me £1 (or something) for every overseas transaction, so I'd want to wang a fair bit in if it counts as being America.

Actually I think they're based in the Isle of Man, so I don't envisage it being a problem either way.

That will be the Play Money table I set up last night. There's nobody there because I left it about 12 hours ago. Larsen's pic is the mascot of our Poker League.

I haven't, thought I'd wait to see if anyone knows first, since if I'm going to be charged £1 per transaction then I'd want to stick a load in, but if not I can just pay as I play.

It's not a huge deal obviously, just wondered if anyone knew.

Card Purchase
POKERSTARS.COM
REF 025 2897441102 BCC

Does that shed any light? The currency was pounds.

By the way Matt, I'm leaving you to organise this and text me if you sort out a time cos I'm out until at least 9. I don't mind missing it, I will be around later if people want to play at all.

If it's in pounds it's probably ok, but I can do a test run and see what happens. What sort of buy-in are we looking at for the tourney-style games? Fiver?

I can't understand GBP when it comes to poker as I've been playing so long in USD, so I'll make it $5 tonight so it's not too expensive.
I only just realised you meant tonight Jono, I'll try and sort it in a minute while Heather's cooking. If you're out til 9 I'll make it 9.30 so you're in, but it's not too late.
This is all based on the admin privileges thing you gave me working, of course... update in a mo.

Cool. Everything is working, so here we go:

When: TONIGHT!!! at 9:30pm (hopefully - 16:30 ET)
Format: Hold 'em, No Limit
Price: $5.00 + $0.50
Prizes: Top 15%
Blinds interval: 10 minutes
Starting chips: 2,000

Top 15%, 10 minute blinds, these are both the standard options so we'll see how they work. I upped the starting chips from 1500 to 2000 to make it more fun.
Also 9 players per table so we can get down to one, lovely, friendly, chatty table as soon as possible.

GET REGISTERED MOFOS.

Right, so I'm paying $5.50, and if I finish in the top 15% (however many that works out to be) I get some $$$. Sounds good. My participation will depend a bit on CF - he's still not back from uni yet so I might not be able to spend all evening playing poker. Shall see.

My big opportunity to tell M Morrison something, however trivial, about computers :!: :o :D

Go to main lobby and choose 'options' from drop down menu and alter time settings to WET (Western European Time) and then you'll get all the proper (British) times displayed for tourneys etc. Hope this helps!!

You stud Mr. Gillies. Thanks for that.

In other news, only me, John and Jono are registered so far.
The PLAY money (i.e. not real money) table that Jono set up last night is still open, so I've sat myself down in case any of you newbies want to come and practice slash ask any tournament questions. Heather's having a bath so I'll be around a bit for at least the next 20 minutes, but she will be having it naked so I might be looking at her for part of that time.

Although Jono has made me an admin, that would appear to proclude approving any registrations since I haven't had shit turn up on my screen or my e-mails. I'll text the Club Manager now.
Hopefully his "back home by 9" sticks otherwise the 9:30 turnout is going to be limited. Will keep you updated.

Buy Chips = deposit money, yeah. Visa doesn't seem to ask for a phone number, what method are you trying to use?
It might be just a new first time deposit security thing, like I said earlier I haven't loaded Pokerstars since last time we did this, so I haven't had to go through (nor can I remember) such admin hassles.

Cool. I've just registered (including giving them my passport number, hardcore). So now I should be set. If we could keep it to $5.50 games that would be good - I deposited $16.50 as it was the first multiple of $5.50 I could persuade it let me have precisely.

The first time I loaded chips on this site they asked me for my passport number so I am not surprised they have asked you for phone details.

Yeah I'm being aksed for my passport number. I don't have a clue where my passport is so maybe I'll do it another time. Seems like so much hassle to deposit like £10.

You can get the top 3 (I would but am not on my home PC) by going Requests -> Tournament History or something like that. It e-mails you.

Quicker blind structure, and maybe 10 or 15 seconds rather than 15 or 20 seconds to make a decision (though not sure about that bit).

Anyway, for setting up Home Game tournaments there isn't a specific "Turbo" or "Hyper-Turbo" setting or anything, it's more precise in a way.
There was a few choices for how quickly the blinds went up - 3/5/10/15/20. So I'll do 5 minutes this time.
Of course, could reset chips back down to 1500 instead, but I think keeping them at 2000 and putting the blinds a bit quicker should be a good balance.
We live and learn and can tweak this stuff each time. Also tempted to give Top 20% prizes rather than Top 15% - actually, no, there was 8 players last time and 3 got paid, so I imagine unless you choose Winner Takes All there is a minimum of 3 paid out? I dunno, bit odd. I'll leave it as Top 15%.

Any more opinions on settings or time tomorrow before I do it?

I like your suggestion of 5 minute levels with 2000 chips and see how that goes. Even faster is better though, as the variance is higher so there's more chance of people who don't play regularly winning.

Not sure about that top 15% thing. Screenshot?

Well, there's only '3 minutes' faster than that - does seem odd as (ok, I'm only commenting on Paddy here, but I'm sure Stars is the same) you used to get STTs with 3 minute blinds ("Speed") and then 1 minute blinds ("Turbo") but guess you can't do them on Home Games.

Maybe could do 3 minutes/2000 chips this time. If it's too quick next time we could do 5m/2000c or 3m/3000c even (there is a 5000c option but that's always going to be miles too many, even for 3m blinds I reckon).
We could even do it straight away after the first tournament if people are unhappy with the first one. Let's say 3m/2000c is the current preferred option for tomorrow night then.
Jon O'Neill wrote:Not sure about that top 15% thing. Screenshot?
No need for screenshot - it's just Top 10% / Top 15% (default) / Top 20% / Winner Takes All.
I'm just saying that there must be some additional rules about how many places get paid depending on entrants, maybe the percentages come into play more when you're playing with several tables worth of people.
As it was, we had 8 - 15% of which is 1.2, meaning 2 players should have been paid, but it was 3. So your guess is as good as mine.

1 minute levels is insane! I've never seen a tournament with less than 3 minutes, which I would call hyper-turbo.

Hmm, yeah the payout thing is confusing. 15% is like 3 people out of a tournament of 20 which is a little top-heavy. Not sure about it all.

Ha, nice one. I'd forgotten about those bounty tourneys, I won a few quid in them a few years back.

It was a lovely moment, they were great tourneys. I'd previously met a couple of the staff firstly when I qualified for the Irish Open and then also when they came to Brighton to do a UKPT thing at the Grosvenor which me and a friend qualified for. We had a great night with two of them, culminating in ordering a case of 24 beers from some 24-hour delivery service and having them deliver it to the beach at 3am, brilliant.

Being the bounty was cool for a bit but so hard to play. They told me I couldn't do big bluffs, and I had to stay in the tourney as long as possible and only move big with top hands. Impossible to play my own game and I didn't do it very well really. Total let down. Still, a lovely moment nonetheless.

They had (presumably still do) several bounty tournaments - a bounty being a specific player, who works for the poker site, who, if you are the person who knocks him out (even if he's lost nearly all his chips and you just strike the final blow) then you get a special prize, regardless of where you go on to finish in the tournament. The prize ranges, and for special tournaments could be $100 or so, or a PSP, a TV, a holiday or something. This was the regular every-Thursday Paddy Power bounty tournament, for which the prize was $50.

It's a pretty cool concept cos it adds an extra something to the tactical side of things - you're tempted to count yourself in to more flops, you sometimes take action based on what the bounty has done, your position on the table compared to one particular player takes on a lot more meaning, you get more implied pot odds to call one of his all-in bets with a lesser hand, etc. etc., and then of course there are players who are in for the long haul, to win the tournament, who deliberately don't get carried away with trying to win the bounty and instead try and take advantage of the aforementioned listed actions of those who do.

If a regular player can be invited to be the bounty, could you not win the prize by collusion?

The tourney had actually already started when they asked me to do it - it was only when I noticed PadiBounty wasn't in the registered players list that I enquired as to what was going on. Dude who was supposed to be doing it that week (various staff players played under that ID as a bounty) was ill and completely forgot his responsibility. So, it was already too late for me to then ring up everyone I know on Paddy Power and tell them to sign up and get on MSN and we'd share the $50 bounty. At the time, and presumably ever since, it's the only time a regular player has ever been the bounty.

Oh okay. I also didn't really understand that you knew who the bounty was, I thought it was kinda like a secret prize.

I shouldn't be in this thread.

Anyone watch the bounty hunter tourney on the sky poker channel (865)? Everyone has a bounty on that so every time you knock someone out you get their bounty. Its a great structure and great fun to watch especially if Richard Orford and Tony Kendall are hosting.

Main Event at 9:30pm again - $5 entry, this time with the same chips (2000) but quicker blinds (3m).

Co-main event at 8:30pm, £2 entry with 1500 chips and 3min blinds.

Preliminary fight at 7:30pm, $1 entry with 1000 chips (maybe? could be 1500, who knows) and 3min blinds.)
