Automated Mario

Post by Paul Howe »

I mentioned automated Mario to a few people on MSN and thought some of you might enjoy it, so here's a link to a series of videos. Some of the later ones are rather mental. If you don't get it, noone is controlling Mario, he's just bouncing off the various obstacles in the level.

this is awesome - it reminds me of syobon action - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=733wle0LQtI for an example - there are versions that have been made with the same sort of thing as this though, but I figured I'd post (an) original, even though it's not pretty

These are good videos. I didn't think though you were able to make your own mario levels. Some of the levels though, seem to be quite frustrating like this one below:

What, so they have recorded millions of random games and put on YouTube the one game where he did something worthwhile? Is this like monkeys on typewriters or am I missing the point?

The point is that the level is designed to allow him to do these crazy things, it wasn't just chance. I guess you have to have played the game to appreciate it.

They build the level themselves. It's actually rather clever, a bit like playing God.

Except the level-builders actually exist.
