They were never on my radar.
Marc Meakin wrote: Fri Apr 20, 2018 8:41 pm To be fair Dale Winston is a household name but Avicii is not a household name in his own household.
R. Lee Emery was great in Full Metal Jacket
Never watched Harry Anderson in anything
I doubt I would have mentioned Avicii if not for the coincidence that happened today.

Tbh the news of Avicii's death made me feel physically sick because he is probably the first artist to die who I have seen evolve musically and then this happens- completely shocked me. Avicii is very well known amongst the teenager/young generation community and will forever have some great songs....

I knew that Avicii was ill but his death today was a bit shocking. He becomes the latest high-profile member of the 27 club, probably the best-known since Amy Winehouse.

(edit: I definitely read earlier that he was 27, but it turns out he was actually 28. Still tragically young).

The way I feel about his passing is the same as my parents when they heard of George Michael's death- like a part of their childhood had been taken away.

Weird. I'm not a music snob at all - I like bits from almost all genres. But I always found Avicii fucking awful. I'm really surprised that so many people have lost their shit about it.

That's not to undermine your feelings Tom - I have no doubt that they're genuine, and merited in your eyes - wouldn't want you thinking otherwise.

I guess if you are under 28 it makes you reflect on your own mortality.
He was no Buddy Holly that's for sure, who was only 22 when he died and was a terrible loss to music, and would almost certainly have been bigger (although probably not in physique ) than Elvis.

I've just been listening to some of his stuff on YouTube. There are a few things I recognise, but it's largely "background music". I know he was commercially successful, but he also was nothing like a household name in the way someone like George Michael was. But then I think there are fewer household names in music these days anyway. You get a few really big names, and the rest are generally only known by people who go out of their way to pay attention to these things. Guy off the street wouldn't have known who Avicii was.

The pope did not die in 1981, Pope John Paul II became pope in 1978 and was the pope who died in 2005

There was an assasination attempt in 1981.

Also Liverpool won the European Cup in 1981 not the Champions league.
Its a moot point anyway as Real Madrid will batter them

Indeed. I'm thoroughly ashamed of myself. What I don't get is why they felt the need to make up a fact. Usually you'd do it to sell some crap. Or at least get you to click to another site. People were just sharing this random yoke to make a rather shit joke.

Also do you remember everything anyone's ever posted on here? You always seem to find something someone's said in obscure threads from ages ago.

No seriously. Please explain the whole thing
1) Watch to see if anyone notable has died.
2) Feel sad/happy/indifferent
3) Report here who has died.
4) If you predicted said person would die, you gain some points.

There you go.

I just want to return to the discussion of this briefly. With someone like George Michael, he sang songs. It was obvious what his contribution was. But I'm not entirely sure what Avicii actually did. As far as I'm aware he was a "DJ". OK, let's go to the Wikipedia. Take the song "Wake Me Up" - I've just looked it up on the Wikipedia and it says ""Wake Me Up" was written by Avicii, Mike Einziger, and Aloe Blacc. American soul singer Aloe Blacc provides vocals for the track and Mike Einziger of Incubus provides acoustic guitar." Is this enough for it to be "by Avicii"? Imagine how many number ones Stock, Aitken and Waterman would have if things always worked like that... But as for "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" it has George Michael written all over it (well, it's by Wham! actually but it's a conveniently similar title so I had to use it).
