2017 upgrade!

Post by Charlie Reams »

I just installed the latest version of the software which runs this board, phpBB 3.2.0.

Other than some slightly rounder corners I haven't noticed much difference yet. Anyone spot anything?

Looks weird on my phone. Red "pieces of paper" with the corner folded over by the unread topics. Stuff at the top looks different too.

First loading screwed the screen completely with the red icons repeating across the page and the menu options in the wrong place. Moving pages didn't help, only a complete refresh has made it readable. thought it was probably my pc at first, but not so sure now. I will let you know if it happens again.
I thought I was good at Countdown until I joined this forum

Also, menus seem to be stuck open. Teething troubles!

Seems to be a Chrome problem (at least) - tried that first, then changed to Firefox and working fine.

guys, all you need to do is refresh. if normal refresh doesn't work then hard refresh (CTRL-F5) - it's just the CSS is cached.

All this is the same for me, after 3 Ctrl+F5s.

How do you do this on a) a phone and b) a Mac?

Yes, I needed to do that, too (being on Chrome) ;)

Imagine me doing a LMGTFY link Jen along with a disapproving face.

Mac:
Hold down the ⇧ Shift and click the Reload button.
Or, hold down ⌘ Cmd and ⇧ Shift and then press R.

Phone would depend on operating system. On iPhone you go into Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Apparently Android is Settings then find the app you use for browsing, tap Storage and then the clear cache and app data buttons appear.

New feature:

Textarea extends (but doesn't contract) to fit content of post as you type more.

For some reason it wants to leave a line between the quoted text and your post, which doesn't look as good. Well, it seems they've changed it now actually so it looks the same.

Given how much they lag behind social media in so many ways now, forums should incorporate the ability to tag users. Shame it's not here in this upgrade.

I don't think so at all. It's always been an enjoyment thing.. some people enjoy getting 7s instead of 5s. It's the same for both players in the game so no benefit there. I reckon the majority of people who do it don't even realise that they're getting an advantage in the standings.
If it was true that the percentage of flat rounds and the percentage of freak darrens was about the same in max-5 rounds and max-7 rounds, then that would be fine. This actually might be true, I have no idea.
Quoting deeper than three does not give an error any more.
It just kills off the quotiest quote and retains the three least quoty layers, silently.

Don't know if this is any different from before but when I read 'LAST POST' I hear a bugle playing in my head. It's cool that you can click the north-east facing arrow and jump straight to that post though.
