Re: For no other reason
You are so very welcome, Debbi!

Congratulations, Debbi!
I think Fawlty Towers is fab, too. I have the boxed set of DVDs, as well as watching it on the TV first time round, too. Yes, I'm that old!
Never mind Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross. John Cleese was the original Sachs offender!

My amateur dramatics group staged a couple of episodes 3 years ago and I played Mrs Richards (the selectively deaf guest in 'Communication Problems'). It was a fabulous experience and we played to a packed houseJulie T wrote:Congratulations, Debbi!

I also remember it on telly originally. Me and my Dad would sit there howling with laughter, while Mum would look on shaking her head in bewilderment.
We are hoping to do Vicar of Dibley next year, with me in the title role.
She came, she saw - oh well, at least she tried!

I've helped my kids perform in some plays with a Home Ed group, but I'm too much of an introvert to perform myself.

How exciting. Would love to see you in Dawn French's shoes Used to be very into amateur dramatics but don't really have the time nowadays.

Re: For no other reason
Why is the word 'dramatics' only used in an amateur context? Other people describe their hobbies as 'amateur photography' or 'amateur football' (or just drop the 'amateur' altogether - 'my hobby is photography' etc.) So what's wrong with 'amateur theatre'? You wouldn't describe Ian McKellen or Judi Dench's occupation as 'dramatics', so why invent a word solely to describe the non-professional equivalent?Dinos Sfyris wrote:Used to be very into amateur dramatics but don't really have the time nowadays.
Mind you, everything's relative. If people say 'Are you still doing am-dram?' my normal reaction is to throw up.
