Let's gamble

Post by JimBentley »

I was surprised to find in the inbox of one of my email accounts that I've apparently got fourteen quid in a Betfred account that's been inactive for 180 days. That's not surprising, I was doing all kinds of weird stuff back then but anyway, I've apparently got to at least log back in to the account to prove I'm not dead or something.

I know fourteen quid's not a lot of money, but it's money I didn't know I had, so feel a moral obligation to gamble it on something.

So: anyone got any good bets?

The baits worked!
CHELTENHAM
1-30 Supasundae. 14/1
2-10 Sizing John. 9/1
2-50 Beg To Differ. 12/1
3-30 The New One. 11/2
4-10 The Govaness. 16/1
4-50 Southfield Royals 7/1
5-30 Double Shuffle 10/1
There are a few short price favourites tomorrow, I have ignored them and went for what I think is the each-way value in each race.
The prices I've quoted are the top prices available.
Hopefully one or two of them will oblige!

A bit unlucky today, a 2nd, a 3rd, 2×4ths, a faller at the last when disputing 2nd and one stumbling on the flat and unseating the jockey when still travelling well.
1-30 Yorkhill 5/2. WIN
2-10. More Of That 15/8. WIN
2-50 Blood Cotil 12/1 E/W
3-30 Un De Sceaux 4/5. WIN
4-10 Josies Orders. 11/4. WIN
4-50. Jaleo 12/1. E/W
5-30. Bacardys 14/1. E/W
The prices quoted are the top prices available.

Now that started off great but I think probably only ended up about even (if all your bets were the same amount) by the end (not to be sniffed at, if you ask me; most tipsters lose). I only remembered in time for the last two races but got a few quid off Bacardys coming in third (12/1) in the 5.30 and (amongst other odd bets), got another few quid from Romain de Senam in the 4.50. Anyway, long and short of it is that I'm not losing this money, which to be honest was the original intention.

Tell you what Steven though, you're my new favourite tipster. Templegate would fucking shit himself if he knew about you.

Any for tomorrow?

Jim, hopefully we can get rid of whatever remaining funds you have left, tomorrow!
1-30 ZABANA 10/1
2-10. OUR KAEMPFER. 10/1
2-50. ROAD TO RICHES 8/1
3-30. WHISPER 12/1
4-10. FULL SHIFT 12/1
4-50. BLOODY MARY 12/1
5-30. UPSWING. 9/1
The prices quoted are the top prices available.
Pick 4 and get them all placed in a 50p Each-Way Lucky 15 (cost £15) could easily return around £200 (depending on what prices you took).

I'm £25 down based on the tips. Got £7 left in the Betfair account.. Zabana needs to perform.

Nevertheless, Steven and Ed between them now mean that I've got £1.16 more in the account than when I started, Road to Riches, Full Shift, Bloody Mary and Ballycasey all paid off today (they seem to be offering up to five places for each way, and I'm not complaining) so thanks, lads!

You know, if you'd done this with £1400 quid instead of £14, you'd have £116 profit by now. Pays to be brave, you coward.

Among my bets today, I had OUR KAEMPFER 10/1 (PADDY POWER paid out on 5th), FULL SHIFT 12/1 (4th), BLOODY MARY 11/1 (3rd) and ZABANA 9/1(UR) in a 80p E-W Lucky 15.
Most Bookies refunded single bets on ZABANA, yet counted him as a loser instead of a non-runner in multiple bets (like my Lucky 15's), I reckon if they had counted him as a non-runner instead of a loser in my Lucky 15's, I would have been at least £110 better off, I'm still fuming!

CHELTENHAM DAY 4
1-30. FOOTPAD. 9/1 E-W
2-10. SUPERB STORY. 15/2. E-W
2-50. LONG DOG. 8/1. E-W
3-30. DJAKADAM. 3/1. WIN
4-10. IT CAME TO PASS. 12/1. E-W
4-50. CHILDRENS LIST. 12/1. E-W
5-30. EASTLAKE. 12/1. E-W
The prices quoted are the top prices available.
Vicky Pendletons horse in the 4-10 PACHA DU POLDER is a top priced 25/1 for anyone tempted to have a few quid E-W on her, a price almost certain to shorten due to public interest.

I put everything put one pence on today's races and they went quite well for me, to be fair. Superb Story did nicely, as did Leoncavallo and Ivanovich Gorbatov. With some odd accumulators I'm now up to £40.51!

Maybe I should leave it at that?

I withdrew the forty quid and blew it on booze and drugs, leaving 51p for my next bet, which I think will be on the outcome of the EU referendum. As Jen advised in the other thread, I really should post it here so that I can get Steven's professional opinion. I think it's going to be 56%-44% to stay, do you think that's worth a bet, Steven? Or should I go for a less exact outcome, maybe a spread?

How exact does it have to be? Can you bet on exactly 56/44?

I think so. The major bookies are all doing intervals (40-45% and so on) so I'm sure one of them will be taking more exact (hopefully 1%) intervals. I just don't know which one yet.

Spread betting is incredibly volatile, I won over £3,000 when Germany beat Greece 4-2 in Euro 2012 and then lost it all and more when Spain and Portugal drew 0-0 in the semi.

It's also the most addictive form of gambling there is so would never recommend anyone gets into it unless they have a LOT more discipline than I have. (I've self excluded from all online betting sites now)

Until they play their FA CUP Semi-Finals on the weekend of April 23/24,I believe WATFORD, EVERTON & CRYSTAL PALACE should be opposed, betting wise.
None of them are going to qualify for Europe via the league or get relegated for that matter.
So basically, the FA CUP Semi-Finals is the one game none of the players of these clubs will want to miss and I believe they will play accordingly until then, by making sure they don't get injured or suspended in the intervening games.
So take ARSENAL, MAN UTD & WEST HAM to take care of the three of them respectively this weekend, the treble works out at around 4/1.

GRAND NATIONAL DAY.
The favourite and last years winner MANY CLOUDS could go close again but is no value at the current top price of 9/1.
I have picked out five that I think are still decent prices.
MORNING ASSEMBLY 25/1
SHUTTHEFRONTDOOR 16/1
GALLANT OSCAR. 20/1
SIR DES CHAMPS. 28/1
BUYWISE. 50/1
These are the current top prices.
Whatever your backing, use a Bookie that's paying out on 5 places, get your bets on as early as possible on Saturday morning (Bookies spend the whole day shortening up every runner) and don't forget to take the prices!

Would've been a marginal win at even stakes (although not as good a win as going on the nose). You're definitely better at horses than you are at the football, Steven! Anyway, where are your latest hot tips?

My initial thoughts were that you weren't exactly sticking your neck out with these, but hey! I've won a few quid on Franklin D (only got 2/1 though). I didn't fancy Forge, the way runners were dropping out of that race it looked as though the each-way returns would barely cover the bet. But if Top Score comes in in the next one, I've won quite a few more quid. Either way I'm covered so cheers, Steven!

Ah well, 20% up on the day and - as I am such a high roller - this represents ONE English Pound Sterling, which is better than a kick in the head, I suppose, but is hardly likely to sustain my insanely extravagant lifestyle. Did you know a tin of corned beef can't be had for less than about one pound fifty these days, I remember you used to get six for a quid and still have change for a fish supper and a picked egg on the way home, of course it was all imperial in those days. "Two firkins for a tanner?" said my old man. "I'd can get six rods and a pole for that!" Ah, those were the days.

I blame Brexit.
