Spoilers for Wednesday 1 June 2011

Post by Rhys Benjamin »

So, after a Breaker yesterday  , Andy "The Gurner" McGurn barely has 5 minutes to breathe before facing Adam "The Stanmore supernova" Gillard, who's not actually closer to Edgware from my reckoning. Anyway....

Here are the stats:

Firstly, The Stanmore Supernova - 9 wins, 1020 points
Highest Score: 126 vs. Ray Li (3rd Game)
Lowest Score: 102 vs. Adam Manning (7th Game)
Total Points/Max/%: 87.0%
Conundrum Success: 7/9

Secondly, The Gurner - 9 wins, 791 points, not inclding TB.
Highest Score: 110 vs. Pam Hill (3rd Game)
Lowest Score: 64 vs. Adam Fleetwood (2nd Game)
Total Points/Max/%: 79.9%
Conundrum Success: 3/9 not including TB, 4/10 including.

Join....erm.... someone later on for today's recap.... or you can find the wiki version comes up a lot quicker.

For the record, my style of nicknames for these two would be Adam "I Have A Yamaka" Gillard and Andy "I Have The Gift Of Foreshadowing Female Semi-Finalists" McGurn.

Your "recogning" is wrong. I live in Stanmore. If you're going to stalk me, at least get the facts straight.

Heh was expecting you to come up with that. It's "yarmulke", "yarmulka", "kippah", "kippa", "kipah", "kippa" or "kipa" by the way. ODE couldn't decide how to spell it either.

Well played today Adam, a solid performance. Andy was a great contestant as well. Well done on keeping the centuries up.

I think that Innis was probably the only one in the audience who spotted this during the round.

Well, as I said yesterday, I did exactly what James does/did - reveal the answers. The only genuine one I got was the numbers on Monday.

Good game from Adam after making a mess of round 1.

First numbers alt: (5*10+4+5+8)*9

Second numbers, one away: (50+25+1)*2*5+7

Very good spot on a hard conundrum. Good game, albeit not as competitive as I would have liked.

If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

That's not what James does. He's only telling us what words he himself has spotted .

James just posts the words he spots himself in the spoiler threads and will explicitly say if he didn't spot a particular beater.

Thanks Eoin. My girlfriend was a huge fan of yours in series 63.

I had a great time on the show, i surpassed my expectations by a huge mile. It was great to be there for the finals and meet some of the community. Josh, Oli, Richard, Marcus and the others who i didn't get much of a chance to talk to it was great to meet you all. Hopefully i'll attend a CO event at some point and meet you all properly.

Plenty of top things to say about the other finalists too, but i'll wait until the final is broadcast so as to avoid spoilers.

Thanks Eoin and Martin. I second what Andy said. It was a pleasure meeting you and Rekha (sorry if spelling is wrong) too. Andy, you were a worthy opponent and I enjoyed seeing flashes of your quick wit, especially the "horrible conundrums" bit at the start of today's show.

Oh I see. (Actually I don't really get any of it.)

I was hoping for SPECCIER^ in round two or whatever it was but apparently not. But I got the numbers that only Rachel did (the same way).

Give Rhys a break, Oliver, Liam et al. I think he was just collating the various beaters / alternatives in an attempt to provide Robinsonesque input. For what it's worth, I also think that we should be grateful that Rhys is on board with the recapping / updating the wiki. I'm sure he'll get the hang of everything soon enough with some constructive criticism.

Maybe I was being overly harsh and unreasonably sarcastic for which I apologise, but to me it didn't seem necessary to post stuff which had been posted elsewhere, especially earlier in the thread. It seemed to me just one of his recent barrage of posts which I perceive as merely a way of getting his post count up without adding to the thread in a productive way (that's not to say he is alone in this :P). I think I speak for a lot of people in finding alternative numbers solutions to easy games is pointless and annoying.
I am more than appreciative of Rhys et al's work on the Wiki and hope it continues.
