Special Spoilers For Monday March 14th 2011

Post by James Robinson »

So, as you might be aware it's the Cheltenham Festival this week, which means that we will be Countdown-less for the majority of the week.

But, luckily Mondays aren't affected, and so we break off from the excitement of Series 64, and bring you a special episode featuring 2 of the most loved contestants from Series 62, namely Lee Graham & Nicki Sellars.

This like the special between Charlie & Junaid is a tie-break decider special, as these two have met on 2 previous occasions and have one win each to their name. Lee beat Nicki at the end of April, curtailing her run of 6 wins, but Nicki got sweet revenge by beating Lee in the series semi-final before losing the final to Oliver Garner, as you might remember.

Here are some statistics:

Firstly, Series 62 Runner-Up Nicki Sellars - 10 Games, 8 Wins, 807 Points
Highest Score: 100 vs. Danny Pledger (Quarter-Final)
Lowest Score: 62 vs. Oliver Garner (Grand Final)
9's Achieved: 0/1
Total Points/Max/%: 807/1209 (67%)
Letters Points/Max/%: 532/809 (66%)
Numbers Points/Max/%: 235/300 (78%)
Conundrum Points/Max/%: 40/100 (40%)

Secondly, Series 62 Semi-Finalist Lee Graham - 9 Games, 7 Wins, 757 Points
Highest Score: 109 vs. John Williams (6th Game)
Lowest Score: 51 vs. Nicki Sellars (Semi-Final) (His 2nd lowest score of 73, was also against Nicki :!: )
9's Achieved: 1/2
Total Points/Max/%: 757/1079 (70%)
Letters Points/Max/%: 558/725 (77%)
Numbers Points/Max/%: 159/264 (60%)
Conundrum Points/Max/%: 40/90 (44%)

With Ryan still on leave of absence, prepare yourself for a Robinson Recap Special later. ;) :) :D

I do that all the time. Occasions that stick in my memory include Marcus Hares' ULCERATED, Eoin Monaghan's TOTALISED and Adam Gillard's ROGATIONS.

What an awesome game that was :!: :!: Played in a super-friendly atmosphere. Plenty of laughs, some awesome spots and a mega sleepsuit by Lee too.

CHARLIE was a nice alternative in round 6.

3rd Numbers Alt.: (7 x 50) - 75 - 5 + (100 / 25) - 274

Totally underestimated how good they were, and how good the contest would be. Great contestants and excellent episode.

I always enjoy the games where previous contestants reappear and todays was a high scoring and entertaining game.
I shall miss my daily fix of countdown during the Cheltenham Festival.
See you all next Monday!

I was there for this one, and the game went so well and was such a great game that Nicki and Lee both wondered if people would think it was a fix (of course it absolutely wasn't!!!)

It really did look like a scripted ending worthy of the ending in National Velvet. But of course it wasn't!
I thought I was good at Countdown until I joined this forum

Yeah I got it this way by doing 5-100/25 first to get the one, then trying to get the 275 from the other three numbers.
If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

Just watched the ending to this game - what a cracker! Especially after Nicki apologises after round 12 as she's so far ahead, basically telling Lee he has no chance. He said "it's not over yet!" and he was right. To get the conundrum on 26 seconds too - lovely.

I haven't got time to watch Countdown any more but saw the review of this so had to watch the intro and the last few rounds - class, and seemed like a game played in high spirits. I love specials :P

The last numbers I used the good old 302 rule: (75-7)x100=6800. 6800+50 = 6850. 6850/25 = 274.
