I was hoping for a final R in that round for MYRIAPODS, but not to be.

The current champion seems like a very solid player, from the scraps I have seen I would rate him as the strongest challenger to David so far.

I don't understand what happened in that game. I was half-watching it (whilst half-sleeping and half-talking to people online), thought the challenger was giving him a run for his money, then suddenly at the end he had 25 points?! I'm going to have to read the recap on this one despite watching it on TV...

Wow, that was a good performance...

Didnt feel too sorry for the loser though, he seemed like one of those public schoolboys who's a bit too used to getting his own way.
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

Did DC mention NEEDIER in round 1? I can't remember.

Also, a nice alternative for round 5 (25, 1, 10, 7, 9, 9, target 568): (9 x 9 x 7) + 1 = 568.

Richard was really good today, I thought, probably his best one yet. That's four centuries in five appearances now and he seems to be getting stronger. If he doesn't make it to eight I'll...be amazed (was going to say "I'll eat my hat" but then I realised I don't own any hats, rendering the promise hollow).

Whilst David still has to be firm favourite for the series title, with Michael M-C, Tim Reypert, wife-beater Barry Smith and presumably Richard all shoo-ins to make the finals, that's a good line-up already and there's still April and May to go.

Good series, this.

Given your usual talent for prediction, I'm surprised you have any hats left to eat. I believe you promised to make a hat cake at some point, but no pictures were forthcoming. Could you update us?

I did make a cake, shaped like a hat. But then I ate it, and took no pictures.

Sorry about that. If it''s any consolation, it was a quite misshapen and disturbing-looking cake.

It was enjoyable though. I enjoyed it.

How can today's challenger's number one interest be Countdown, and yet he hasn't found his way here yet?

Come on Matt, where are you? Let's be having you!

Does winning this game make Richard the number #4 seed (I don't know all of his scores)?

Not quite, Joseph. He's still 52 points behind Barry Smith, but should overtake him on Monday.

edited - I missed one of Barry's games. Richard is still about 132 points behind Barry.

So if I have done this right and these are the top #8 seeds for now:

David O'Donnell - 8 wins 880 points.
Michael Cooper - 8 wins 780 points.
Tim Reypert - 8 wins 773 points.
Barry Smith - 6 wins 509 points.
Richard Priest - 5 wins (not sure of points).
Jason Cullen - 4 wins 357 points.
Gayle Smith - 3 wins 291 points.
Ian Lamb - 3 wins 270 points.

Not quite, Joseph.

Barry Smith has 7 wins and 648 points, and Richard Priest's points total is 516 after 5 games.

Don't know about seeds 6-8.

A seed table will probably appear on the Countdown Wiki sometime soon.

Only just watched this one so a little late but I think maybe GROUPEES was there in one round as an equaller, also had a different way to 568 in R5 ((9*9)-10)*(7+1) and also a different way to 864 in R10 with (10+7+1)*3*4*4.

This guy is good. Some great words. I missed MYOPIA. Looking forward to the series finals which are shaping up nicely.

I thought your losing score counts as well :D Joseph. Therefore, I would have 4 wins and 421 points :P

Not as good as SYMPODIA but there is DAIMYOS for 7 which beats the panel.

Martin
If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

Do you really count the losing score too? I thought it was only wins that were counted.

You're quite right, Jason. A losing score does count as well.

And because of this, it is quite likely for one player to have seven wins and then lose the final game, and yet have a higher points total than another player who wins all eight games. Who, then, is higher in the seeding table? Does number of wins take precedence, or is total points counted first?

Your game(s) will be recapped, as are all games back to at least 26 June 2003. Check http://www.thecountdowncorral.com/cd/se ... ?series=58
2. does anybody know where i can download countdown episodes, as i am wanting to put the episode/s onto a dvd.
Most of them appear on Youtube but the quality is very poor and I don't know of any simple way to put them onto DVD. The easiest thing is to find someone with a DVD recorder and get them to record it straight from the telly.

Nowadays, the number of wins, although I believe in the past it was points at one stage? Mike Brown would know!

Yes, it did change at some point. If you go to Mike's page, he has a seeding list for each series and how it was calculated. But it's definitely number of wins first now.

Yeah, I am now starting to get vaguely concerned. I cannot even imagine what you were going through when you were watching Craig. Is it completely immoral of me to find solace in that comparison? :)

:) Yeah, but maybe I should have paid more attention to the likes of Steve! Stupidly I was more concerned with the 'plan' I had to beat Jeffery in the SF and then how I was possibly going to stop Craig in the final (basicly hope he was ill). Anyway, that's all gone. Just that old saying of take each game as it comes. You're good enough to win the series and from a neutrals point of view it's a match that I am looking forward to seeing and I hope it is the final.

Yes in Series 48 David Nickeas who lost his 8th game to Danny Hamilton had more points than Joe Zubaidi and Julia Wilkinson, check the wiki if you don't believe me!
